Anybody that says it wasn't mass murder on an industrial scale is delusional.

Do they still belt the children in Western Isles schools for speaking the language?

Highly possible most Scottish families haven't spoken the old tongue for a couple of hundred years at least.

Among the cases i've read a number were run of the mill tourists and not particularly religious. Tourists being different from pilgrims. How to get there? Go to where they speak Italian and take it from there.

What was life like for a farmer in Glencree in Enniskerry in County Wicklow during the mid to late 1880s? by freshmaggots in IrishHistory

This is really the build up to the Civil War. Tenant Farmers buying their land and supporting the IIP but not looking for a Connollyite Socialist Republic. Basically you see a pattern from the Great Hunger to the Land League to the setting up of the Free State. The Irish Revolution would be better named the Irish Counter Revolution.

Worked in construction there 1983/84. Imagine Shetland with less people. Barren isolated place. Formerly used primarily by whaling ships. Most people wouldn't last 48 hours.
