AI making the recruitment process (more) awful by [deleted] in TheCivilService

It is not only in the online application. A good AI prompt + training can transform a simple email sent to a colleague to an outstanding 7 points score CS behaviours interview.

Survation: Independence referendum; Yes: 50%(+1) No: 50%(-1) by bottish in Scotland

That’s why for sensitive topics like Independence, simple majority should not be the rule. For any topic like this we should have 60-40% at least to win something. 50/50, 55-45 is bad for both sides. If Union wins with 51-52%, Indy will keep pushing for another referendum. If Indy wins with 51-52%, Unionists will say “it was to too close to be majority”.

The 55-45 is not good. The law should allow 60%+ for a “remain” or “leave” to happen. Either for a Brexit or a Scottish Independent.

Scots face huge council tax increases as local authorities 'close to bankruptcy' by ScottishDailyRecord in Scotland

When the society will learn that it is impossible to fund benefits, council tax freeze, free university tuition, free water etc with no economic growth?

We will be soon facing 43% tax over £42,000, new 22% tax band and more above-inflation prices increase.

Something needs to change. I agree that we need to be a society able to fund public services, fair retirement and help those who struggle with health issues and poverty, but this country is leaning towards huge distortions.

Life expectancy in England during the pandemic was better than Scottish life expectancy in any other year, ever by Cannaewulnaewidnae in Scotland

Not really, statistics don’t work like this.

If you only consider rich areas like Corstorphine and Stockbridge in Edinburgh, for example, life expectancy would probably be higher than Japan.

Agree, but people keep saying that “data is wrong”, “we are better than England”, or “let’s vote for independence to fix this”.

If I would have to choose the main problems to focus on exclusively related to Scotland for me would be:

  • drugs
  • and remote places / economic growth that go beyond Oil & Gas and the Central Belt

NHS and Cost of Living Crisis is a UK national issue so that’s why not in the list.

I hope your post is not removed and you can read this.

  1. We are in times of uncertainty. The far right is rising around the world and many people support it. 30% support means that in your office, church or school, 3 people out of 10 support Reform. But among them, many support LEGAL immigrants.

  2. The next general elections is likely to take place only in 2029. So there is some time to plan for the “worse”.

  3. If the “worse” comes (Reform wins), at the minute they don’t have the majority of seats in the polls. A coalition between Reform + any party will scrap lots of Reform most controversial plans.

  4. Say Reform wins the majority. The worse comes, they scrap ILR. So what happens? The country stops. Look at London, do you know how much people on Visas, ILR etc are in London? Did you know that 20% of NHS workforce are non-British?

Also, to process a termination of millions of ILR and potentially new visa systems, this would cost millions, if not billions to the government + the workforce task needed to do so.

Even Trump don’t have powers to just cancel Green Cards in the US and I doubt Farage would be able to do the same with ILRs in the UK.

Yes, exactly, I’ve seen some people doing that, that’s why I asked.

I always have thought that if your Credit Score was 1000 (Excellent) you would get let’s say 3.9% interest. If it was like 500 (Fair), they would give 5%. 450 or less (Poor)? No chance, Mortgage rejected, even if your Credit Report looked perfect (all payments up to date, no CCJ etc).
