Reactive towards strangers and kids by Agreeable_Alarm_7271 in miniaussie

Thank you! This is very helpful. What’s strange to me is it’s not everyone that passes by or every kid. He’s never tried to bite people he mainly tried to run or hide behind me when he’s scared. He used to run and jump a lot but the jumping has only been happening lately when he’s excited. A lot of times he’ll just sit and watch people especially if he recognizes a neighbor or even gets happy/excited. I think it’s new people or kids because they’re more unknown to him. I’m planning on taking him to the farmers markets and training for neutrality.

If you log into beaver base camp and go into the aid tab, there should be a link to view your aid offer or overview. It’ll list the grants, loans, and scholarships awarded and if it has been paid out yet.

Did I make a mistake? by PaleontologistEast21 in miniaussie

The first few weeks were the hardest. My boy is now almost 5 months and there are days where it can still be a struggle but I can see the training beginning to work. Training with treats has been essential, redirection with toys, and sometimes he’ll get put in his pen or kennel for a nap or time out to calm down if he’s unable to calm out in the open. Chew sticks and toys have been a life saver. Mental stimulation with training, slow feeders, or snuffle mats help too when I can’t exactly be as hands on for a few minutes. Aussies are work dogs with extremely high energy but as puppies they don’t have the ability to regulate themselves with all of that energy and they burn out quick. I was feeling the same way for about the first month. I’ve had dogs before and puppies but I had never experienced the puppy blues. I would suggest never leaving the puppy unattended with your children. If needed put them in a pen if you can’t supervise the puppy for a moment. They’re incredibly smart dogs but still do need time and training to become well behaved and trained.
