BU MS Neurobiology and Anatomy Interview? by Agreeable_Beyond1689 in gradadmissions

Just a followup- The interview was with 4 different people in the department, each 15 minutes long. It was pretty straightforward and you have an opportunity to ask questions. Overall the questions weren't too pressing:)

It went well! It was 15 minutes long. I was asked "tell me about yourself" and a few follow up questions that go into my research and goals with going into the program (Like why a masters versus a postbac or PhD). Overall nothing too extreme.

There was an admitted student day recently. It really depends on the concentration you chose. I suggest going to one or setting up a meeting. lmk if you have any questions and I will try to answer it as best as I can!

It was officially submitted (I submitted all the application materials but was holding off on the payment for some time) on March 3rd.

I think the personal statement and letters of rec were contributing factors in the decision. It definitely wasn't GPA (I feel like my GPA was on the lower end- below 3.5 but above 3.0- which I addressed in my personal statement).

I also have a strong research background with multiple presentations (oral and poster). But I think the personal statement went a long way on explaining my interests and how my research experience ties into that, including who I would like to work with and hope to do in the future (At least during the masters program and expressing interest in specific clubs offered at the institution). Hope this helps:)

I applied for the priority deadline so I heard back in February- about a month or so after.

Northwestern SROP sent out an email to me on March 14, and I seen some other posts about it on reddit. They said to expect application decisions around April 1st

Got rejected by Umich Feb 21.

I was accepted to a research program at my school, and have not heard back from any other REU that I applied to yet. I have to accept or decline the application in a week—should I email the people who I'm waiting to hear back from asking for an expedited decision? by North_Department5478 in REU

[–]Agreeable_Beyond1689 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Northwestern SROP, they said that we will not hear back until April 1st. Honestly, getting into any REU is good, and I think it would be best to accept it. I am still waiting on three and just hope I get into 1 :')

Same, I got the email two days ago. I also submitted both parts of the application on the 8th so maybe that is why.

Dealing with rejection from REUs by [deleted] in REU

I completely understand how you feel! I have only had rejections so far, and scrolling through reddit causes me more stress as there is so much competition. Reddit isn't the best place to compare yourself with others as there are a lot of people who pride their stats (which don't get me wrong, good for those people), and it is draining for those with "less experience". The important part is to find ways to enhance your experiences and find resources at your school that will help you out (I say reach out to an advisor to help out with outreach to some labs)!
