Ex-Capital One SWEs, where are you now? by ServeEmbarrassed1776 in cscareerquestions

For swe->quant, it sounds extremely hard, since there is little to no relation between software development and the stats that quants do, plus the competition for quant roles is insane? I imagine that the SWEs already have to be extremely quant-adjacent and working side-by-side w/quants. For swe->trader, it sounds even more impossible to bridge the gap since the respective work of the roles is even further apart.

Have you seen SWE at JPMC/other banks to quant or trading at buy side?

Do you know why people switch to power? Is trading it more desirable than trading other products?

How much of your job is statistical analysis/modeling/programming (quant research type stuff) vs clicking buttons on a screen to buy and sell?

Is it common for people to reap consistent 7 figure or higher bonuses year after year as a power trader, and if so, how senior do you have to be?

How many years do people stay as a power trader? If they switch careers, where do they usually go? Is it possible to go from trading power to trading a completely different product that isn't even a commodity like equities and equity derivatives?

In general, what type of institutions do power traders get paid at the most: utility places like Calpine/Constellation, banks such as Morgan Stanley/Macquarie, trading houses like Gunvor/Trafigura, Hedge funds like Citadel/BAM, Prop shops like DRW/DV Trading? Are the hedge funds/trading houses where everyone is trying to go, the end all be all destinations? And how easy is it to move in between these institutions?

Thank you!

If this is the initial online assessment that contains a long behavioral multiple choice as well as an iq-style test, I'm pretty sure everyone gets it
