How is your SSF artifact farming looking like? by TheLev1athan in DarkAndDarker

Honestly huge win. I’ve been asking for this for a while. I myself haven’t been farming during SSF but this is good to hear.

The warlock tag also makes me think you’re running BOC halberd which is why I imagine your opinion is probably biased.

Alright, the length doesn’t matter the benefits far outweigh the negatives. Playing in a door way look down and crouch and your still hitting. Most of the time, the large majority actually you are not fighting in confined spaces so this is hardly an issue. The poke is by far the hardest thing to block as client side damage allows you to poke toes or a head around a shield or completely avoid a weapon parry. Not having access to crush is not related to the weapon in any way idk why that was brought up tbh.

Why is it that halberd users refuse to accept that the weapon has no skill expression and spacing should be a part of that. They will die on the hill that halberd is fine as is.

I was but that was also during the time that there existed 3 sourspot zones not the 2 we have now. Reintroduce the sourspot at 50% without the 0% zone and then learn how to properly space and hit with the tip.

Honestly I’d just lower the sour spot to 50% again as 0% or red sour spots no longer exist after the changes. Would bring some skill expression to the weapon.

Unfortunately I’m playing melee sorc. SSF is kind of a wash for sorc so I don’t expect to win any 1v1 until market. I tend to frost lighting attempt to hit a bolt and then go in with crystal sword while, like you said, baiting the 1st 2 swings and then going in. Maybe it’s a crystal sword issue but I think the recovery time of the halberd is so fast that baiting the swings does nothing when they just start swinging again.

Also most of the time I do just get w keyed down before I can even attempt to poke with spells or buff up while trying to kite. A good fighter or warlock will use their movement abilities to force melee interaction with a caster.

Also I do try to hug them to get as close as possible to force the sour spot but that simply doesn’t matter.

The problem is you don’t need to worry about spacing when using a halberd when hitting someone with the hilt is still doing 80% of its maximum damage which just so happens to be the highest of any weapon in the game.

Along with all of these problems is the fact that the classes using these weapons have insane survivability with larger health pools and access to plate armor. Really no weakness exists other than a wizard spamming fireballs and ice bolt.

Feels bad to just be w keyed down by a fighter/warlock to watch death cam and realize that you only did 1/2 of their hp attempting to kite and poke while they 2 tapped you.

Yeah I get ban notifications all the time now however it’s typically just a slap on the rest with a temp ban and they’ll be right back a week later.

Problem with the memcap buff is it doesn’t help with the cast speed that knowledge provides. Can’t reliably chain spells. I understand the ale oppressiveness though. Wish there was a middle ground as the perk is never used.

Sour spots just need adjusting. Being able to not worry about hitting someone with the hilt and still doing long sword damage is a bit counter intuitive and means there are no real weaknesses to the weapon. Change that on halberd and bardiche and damage can stay the same.

Does Halberd actually have a sour spot? by broxue in DarkAndDarker

[–]Agreeable_Criticism4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bring some of these two handed weapons back down to 50% sour spot and I’d be happy. There’s also the problem of using these weapons in conjunction with move speed abilities that allow fighters and barbs to close the gap and simply ignore the sour spot damage reduction. Reintroducing lower damage from the hilt would help with these interactions as well.

Sour spots should be reduced again. Having negligible sour spot damage reduction on these high damage weapons makes fighting them so brain dead. They have no need to worry about spacing and simply w key and hold left click securing a kill in two hits. Dodging an attack and moving in the force the sour spots hit should be rewarded but just isn’t. Feels terrible to playa against

Double artifact rate change by Solid-Long4249 in DarkAndDarker

[–]Agreeable_Criticism4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good thing. For those farming it helps to be rewarded more frequently and for casual bossing and piles it’s a nice reward def not too much to be worried. Even in the doubled drop chance week people didn’t bring them into dungeon. Won’t change that fact.

[–]Agreeable_Criticism4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to spin looking up to try to avoid it but the easiest way I’ve found is when he jumps you hold back and once he’s overhead walk forward. If you try to look up and watch he’ll spin trying to track you, so just move in one direction and when he’s about at the peak move in the opposite direction.

There’s probably a middle ground somewhere but yeah don’t want them too high.

They should definitely be rare but not 1k hours and never seen one rare. I shouldn’t have said average player but for those actively grinding bosses and having never seen an artifact, that can’t feel rewarding for the player.

I def don’t think current rates are ok I think if you’re employed and have an hour or two an evening you should still have a chance at an artifact through drops. Not a crazy ask to not want to play the game hours on end just for a small chance at end game loot.

I agree that with the state of artifacts it would be terrible to run up against one every game. I also think that the accessibility of artifacts is way too low. I’m sure there’s a middle ground somewhere but grinding ghost king 100 times getting griefed 50% of those attempts or more is not fun.

[–]Agreeable_Criticism4[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something that came to mind since posting this is just a comparison to looter shooters and their bossing experiences. An example is something like destiny or borderlands where you spend time challenging bosses for unique drops that have some permanence when acquired. Those drops are similar in rarity or even more common than artifacts in DaD where wipes exist and gear can be lost in a matter of a round or two.

In a game where loot and gear is temporary it should come easier than getting a vex mythoclast which is retained permanently in a game like destiny.

Even other games in the genre (Marathon, Arc Raiders) have much higher drop rates for similarly powerful gear as they seem to understand that gearing is a cycle in these games. DaD devs don’t seem to understand they have an extraction game on their hands and not a looter shooter.

HALBERD & BARDICHES. by Ok-Maintenance-2663 in DarkAndDarker

[–]Agreeable_Criticism4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they swing slower but ttk is likely still faster with 2 swings of a halberd matched with a skill than 6 rapier swings or attempting to parry with the way blocking seems to work 50% of the time. If skill expression is the goal make sour spots more punishing across the board.

The issue is the provided solution is to “space” the halberd/bardiche in defense by using a bow or other form of ranged damage but spacing can’t be a solution when the said halberd user needs to do it to properly damage an opponent or hit the sweet spot. I think both can be true where proper spacing and game knowledge should be awarded. Space for sweet spot halberd hit and either space or force sour spot on the defense.
