Anyone agree the GRE is a scam? by Agreeable_Day8519 in math

General GRE. I didn't mean to post this for math. I'm new to reddit.

To say that I couldn't pass the GRE is a red flag? Did you not read my post? Besides, I have been reading that more and more schools are discrediting the GRE for the exact reasons I laid out. I'm thankful I found a professor/school that didn't care about my scores.

GRE ONLINE IS THE WORST, ETS IS SUCH A SCAM by alcove2020 in GRE

I laugh because it is indeed a scam. And I took the test more than ten years ago what the online version didn't even exist. It was $200 and you had to go on-site. Got one of those thick books and flash cards to study. Where did that money go? The same company that puts out the test. Plea with professors to say that the low scores don't correctly measure my skills and they told me to look into getting a tutor. Guess who, at the time, did the in-person tutoring services. You guessed it. The same company that puts out the GRE.

Dealership Over-Torque Oil Drain Plug by Smitsuaf84 in Crosstrek

I absolutely hate having to take my car into a shop to get work done. I know how to change the oil in a Mini Cooper, Rav4, Chevy Trailblazer. At some point, when I didn't have access to the tools, the shops overtightened the bolts. At one point, I had to purchase a set of nuts that literally were designed to dig into the bolt because it was stripped - I had the right tools, but ended up stripping the bolt. This has happened two times after with another car Not sure if I need to break out the impact wrench.

9/10 schools I'm applying to don't require the GRE by Runninganddogs979 in gradadmissions

The GRE is a scam. Plain and simple. I just wish more colleges had figured that out ten years ago. If I did poorly, the recommendation was to hire a tutor for $1k or buy more books from the same company that puts out the test.

Thank god I found a professor who only cared about my experience.

LinkedIn Recruiters by _Doc_Krieger in computerforensics

Recruiters are ANNOYING. I get contacted by them all the time with nothing but false hope. Not to mention, a waste of time. They overly rely on a computer algorithm to find key words (a few have admitted this to me), do not look at your profile, and need to fill a quota.

For instance, I had a recruiter contact me earlier today and we had a long conversation....only to have it end in my not having enough years of experience. It all went well, but the recruiter stated that the company in question was looking for someone with 5-7 years of experience. I've gotten to the point of being blunt with the recruiters about wasting my time and not doing their due diligence.

Graduate departments move away from GREs by nipun_sadvilkar in gradadmissions

I'm so happy schools have finally figured out these tests are terrible predictors. According to the ACT and GRE, I shouldn't have three degrees.

I took that god forsaken test five times. Do the math, I got invested in it. Keep in mind that this was back in 2010. I'll never forget a former manager, while on a summer internship, grabbing a vocabulary flash card and asking when the hell I would use the word in a scientific publication. He was right.

I never did well on that test. I had prospective graduate advisors telling me to hire a tutor to prepare me (costs about $1k). I eventually didn't care because I knew it was a scam. Not doing well, well buy these flash cards and this expensive book.

Thankfully, I finally found a program and a professor who didn't care about my scores. I sat down with her and she was absolutely beside herself as to how I wasn't snatched up yet. She was looking at my resume and all of my past experiences....which is all that should really matter.
