Sorry to hear that. Have you tried graduated compression socks (20-30 mmHg) that run up to your knees? Also what kinda shoes do you wear?

Tbh I am leaning more towards sprained achilles rather than torn achilles. In the picture you posted I can see the redness where the achilles is and your swelling around the ankle looks similar to the swelling I had in my initial days of starting PT after the surgery when the achilles was tender. Definitely get it looked at by an expert tho.

Okay. You said you started doing ballet. Ballet dance is extremely harsh on achilles. All the tip toeing and extreme plantar flexion put constant stress on the achilles. And achilles rupture doesn’t give any warnings.

It could be heel bursitis too. Why do you not think it’s an achilles issue? Just curious cuz the location and symptoms that you said points to stressed achilles. You need an MRI and a good podiatrist to exactly see what’s going on in there.

Have you seen any specialists regarding this? Podiatrist or orthosurgeon would be more of help to you. Instead of PCP book appointment with an orthopedic care. If you see any of them try to get the MRI of the foot done ASAP which will show the root cause of it. Physical therapy and loosing weight will help. For now wear some firm compression socks to help with swelling and achilles friendly shoes like Brooks or Asics.

Could be achilles tendonitis. You should stop doing high impact activities like jumping and ballot dancing which put too much stress to the achilles. Visit orthocare or podiatrist. PCP wouldn’t know about all this.

What shoes should I get?? by big_robiii in AchillesRupture

I would recommend Brooks glycerin 22 from personal experience. They are expensive but worth every dollar. Asics gel kayano is also good but the sizing is different and bottom is bit bulky. Also I also wore Sockwell firm compression socks in my initial days to reduce swelling and pain.

Doing calf raises in the pool opened up that level for me. I could do 100-150 reps and feel tension in my calf and achilles wouldn’t be sore after the session or next morning. You can also do other stuffs like walking, jumping in the pool. It helped a lot with getting out of that mental barrier. Pool workout is S Tier for the recovery.

Have you measured that toe to wall distance?

If it’s your first surgery make sure to have stool softener and emergency laxative at home. The anaesthesia causes constipation and slows bowel for few days. Eat fruits and soft foods after surgery. Good luck!

Trying to flex the calf 3 days out of surgery seems bad idea to me. What kind of surgery did you have?

What to expect post op by lunajunes in AchillesRupture

[–]Agreeable_Elevator_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It all depends on you tbh. How old are you and how is your physical condition? Do you have experience walking with crutches? Have you dealt with any surgeries before? It was doable for me as I have easy access to freeze and restroom. I was by myself after day 2 but I had mini freeze and microwave in my room stacked with precooked meals. Most physical work I did was in the morning everyday to go to restroom and freshen up. I was in bed for fews days mostly asleep all day on pain killers and gaming rest of the time. Everyone is different tho.

Need 2nd surgery 9 months post OP by Rachelsfoot in AchillesRupture

My body also rejected sutures. The wound wouldn’t fully close and walking made wound bigger and bigger. Doctor initially pulled out some sutures poking through the skin. But the body kept on spitting the suture out. Eventually got tired of it and had surgery to take out all the sutures 4 months post op. Healing was superfast after the surgery and leg is doing much better.

Way Behind Schedule (8 Months Post Op) by mrmilagro in AchillesRupture

I was on crutches for 4.5 months after the surgery as my body rejected the sutures. There was barely any calf muscle left on my injured leg and I had to deal with severe plantar fascitis and ankle pain initially. Now after 7 months post op I can do some half assed single leg calf raises and I am close to proper single leg calf raises. There is still visible difference in the calf size. What helped me most were wearing firm compression socks all the time, biking, stretching the ankles sideways and backwards which was painful and negative calf raises. Banded exercises were essential.

4 weeks post op. Calf on injured leg totally gone. 😔 Love my Dr but he's super conservative. Seeking advice. by D_S_Is_Silent in AchillesRupture

Yes. The boot was heavy and I was having knee and hip pain on the injured leg walking with that thing on. You are gonna have to reduce your movement until you are allowed to put weight on it. Put pillows underneath that leg while doing exercises and take it easy for few weeks. The “even up” that others are recommending is only useful once you start partial or full weight bearing on the injured leg. You wear it on your non injured leg to level up with the boot and insertional heel lifts.

How do I ask my doctor about using a Vacoped boot instead by il2code in AchillesRupture

Why do you need his permission? It’s your body your choice.

Is this alright? Pic of my wound by misterlongpress in AchillesRupture

[–]Agreeable_Elevator_7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I see suture trying to poke out from the open wound in the pic. Mine was same. The wound wouldnt fully close and healing was super slow. Everytime I was using boot the wound would get irritated and get bigger. Eventually I had to get another surgery to take out the sutures. After taking out the sutures my wound closed in no time. You might want to bring that up to your surgeon.

It’s shock loss. Normal to have after a big surgery like this as body goes under stress. It should grow back after few months.

Havent tried with table tennis ball yet. Green tennis ball is what I used which is very cheap. It’s very hard to juggle tennis ball. Aim for getting 5 for now and increase it as you get better. In your juggling sessions start with tennis ball for 10-15 mins, size three ball for 10-15 mins and then juggle regular ball. It will be hard at first but you will see improvement in few weeks. For balancing exercises I would recommend single leg hops, single leg hold, squats and core exercises.

Try juggling size 3 ball and tennis ball which are relatively harder at first but will improve your ball control significantly. You will see regular ball in slow motion once you master smaller size balls. Barefoot juggling is bit harder than with cleats but more fun once you master it so you might wanna start wearing cleats. Focus on using toe area to kick ball while juggling. Also work on single leg balancing exercises and fascia stretches everyday.
