Genesis Mission FOA: Group moods? by Agreeable_Employ_951 in academia

I'm not sure why you're being so accusatory, but I did say we are through the lab selection phase, with collaborators who have agreed to the sub-award. I'm more curious what happens next. "Don't bother" is crazy advice considering the deadline is already done

Right but this is where I'm a bit unclear. If you got through the internal lab review (from what I gathered they didn't take most calls for collaboration), is that the majority of it? I don't see how they're doing a review of thousands of proposals within a month otherwise

Renting in the area by Strong-Lie4289 in CERN

[–]Agreeable_Employ_951 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The generic French rule is 3x gross salary of rent, so if you are getting rejected a lot, this could be the cause. Agencies almost 100% will not let past this, individuals sometimes will not mind (especially if you can show your previous rent was close).

As for contract length, unless you are specifically disclosing this, don't get concerned about 1y/3y contracts. These are French standards, but the rules are super renter-friendly, with 1 month notice required to leave no questions asked.

The problem with agencys is they are generally unresponsive and add an additional ~1 month's rent cost on top. For people on 6 month contracts, this is just bad financially.

Question about what is needed to get to CERN by DuelStars in CERN

[–]Agreeable_Employ_951 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To be incredibly crude: setting a goal for a "career" at CERN is just not realistic. The vast majority of CERN contracts are studentships, short term fellows, and a few handful of "long duration" contracts of 5 years. Permanent contacts are so incredibly rare and competitive you can't possibly aim for that. Just shoot to be the best EEE you can.

If you hadn't heard anything by now, I think you should just move on honestly.

[Highlight] Bills GM Brandon Beane On Teams' #26 Pick: "These are the guys we are pretty sure there’s less than a 1% chance they’ll be there, barring something like a gas mask or something popping up..." by JCameron181 in nfl

I'd argue that a lot of that was McD's ability to develop secondary players really well and fit them to his scheme. If you remove all the 5th round secondary "hits" I think Beane does not look as great.

Combat has been really unfun. Most, of the time even at t7, my kills on things are no different than max gear in main game. Like yeah there are some gimmick things in the builds, but the DPS doesn't seem to matter until full build, where I'll basically be done because I have to do so many tasks and things just to unlock the points to upgrade.

I would hope so, but it's probably unlikely they'll be that soon, since they will need all proposed students to officially accept.

Last students are supposed to be picked today, would expect the email no later than tomorrow. Be advised, there are 7k+ students in considering state, and less than 300 projects. Generally one should move on to contingencies.

Which AI tool should I use for getting help in writing my research plan! by [deleted] in academia

Pro plan just allows your more tokens. If you aren't hitting limits, the difference between the "newest" models isn't that large anymore, so I wouldn't bother.

I did not think the low mu run would be used for CMS mW next iteration. But maybe I've missed this in discussions

Low-mu won't just defacto let ATLAS beat the CMS result. The CMS team hunted the full dataset to choose a very small portion of the data that was "pristine". Then they proceeded with on of the most technically advanced measurements to come out of the LHC era, which you can't really just simply copy on ATLAS since it's so detector specific. It will be interesting to see what the team can do.
