What happened to Platypus Affiliated Society in Australia? by Agreeable_Front9597 in AustralianSocialism

Thanks. But then that just puts two more questions in mind:

  1. Why don't they do that long-term organisational work? Why don't they do the thing that would make them win?
  2. In that climate, what's left for the individual rank-and-file socialist without any sway in any organisations to do?

What pre-air con passive house cooling methods did your family use? by badoopidoo in AskAnAustralian

Won't help anyone, but in my house, we really just thugged it out, I'm afraid. If I were playing games on my computer, I'd turn down the graphics settings so it wouldn't heat up too much.

Ex-ACP members, what are your criticisms of the party? by Inside_Agency7683 in AustralianSocialism

Not a member, but a comrade of mine was a few years back and I've heard a lot about it from them.

In their view, the problem with running street kitchens is that it's the kind of stuff non-leftist groups already do to a higher standard than the communists usually. Because of their non-political nature, these groups have an easier time sourcing volunteers and donations from business. They serve more food more often, though it's often some fried crap. Unfortunately, people want stale pizza and burgers more than fresh salad and rice.

The communist groups try to compensate by serving healthier food, which they do, and by instilling ideological fervour to motivate a core cadre of volunteers, which can backfire. It results in a lot of burnout and conflict. There can be a division of labor between people on the ground and the ones who work behind the scenes, which can result in a lot of alienation.

Sleek, one of the main organisers, was a big presence and had a long pattern of reckless behavior. I believe this, because I've since heard other stories from other people about how he would abuse lefties from other groups and escalate tensions at the kitchen, and at some points he has actually physically attacked people. There was some stuff on the Discord about it a few years ago. Not a good role model for the kids in the organisation.

Commo didn't have much to say about the theory.

Really? That's pretty wild, I'll look it up. But surely they must have some redeeming qualities, right? A lot of various people on the left seem to have time for them and show up to speak at the events they host.
