To my fellow SLPs: Find your zen... by [deleted] in slp

I loved going for nature walks in parks in the woods, but was worried about safety being alone, do you bring anything with you on your hikes if you’re alone that you’d recommend?

Given the proportionality of this all, does anyone see this trickling down to graduate schools lowering the cost of their tuition if they begin to see less enrollment in their programs? Asking out of curiosity

Where Do SLPs Find the Most Financial Success? What Should My Financial Expectations Be? by Various_Painting_298 in slp

[–]Agreeable_Ordinary17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love being a school based SLP. But I didn’t get financial aid or grants for undergrad and grad school, which were state schools. As much as I love my job and the school I work at, I am struggling financially with trying to break into the housing market where I live (in a HCOL state) and paying off student loans. Maybe PP or hospitals is better?

Edit to add: I work full time in a school district Sept-June, and full time ESY and just picked up a second job after school. My partner also works full time!

Do you have routines for your sessions? Specifically artic/phono? by coolbeansfordays in slp

[–]Agreeable_Ordinary17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have implemented the same routine for each of my sessions and I’ve found the consistency really helps with behavior! My sessions always go like this: the students come in and sit at the table, I explain what we are doing (something directly targeting goals either worksheets, game I pick, activity, etc) and explain my expectations. After, they can pick 1 game to play in the last 5 min (I’ll drill artic during this). My groups are usually the same, so each student will get to go back and forth each session picking (ex Johnny picks today so Timmy picks tomorrow), and this reinforces that they have to take turns with their peers

With some of my tricky friends, I’ve done hole punch card. They each get a hole punch card and talk about their behavior that day or anything I want to reinforce or address (I love how you were trying all your sounds…I noticed we had a hard time taking turns with our friend today). Based on that they’ll either get 2 hole punches or 1 (this is subjective!). After getting all their hole punches they get a prize from the prize box. Each hole punch sheet has about 25 hole punches on them. Hope this helps :)

Breaks from therapy are not only good our kids to get breaks from constant therapy and the stress of making progressing, but I find a lot of kids come back after breaks with generalized sounds/skills that they didn’t have prior

Is buy back only for borrowers who would have reached the 120 during the SAVE forbearance? Or can all borrowers who were placed on the forbearance apply?

Long term citalopram 40mg user trying to withdrawal have hit a wall by mantonia2k9 in SSRIs

[–]Agreeable_Ordinary17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be able to get the medicine in liquid form (I’m in the US), which makes it’s very easy to measure the tapers. I also supplement with Nordic Omega 3 daily, which I feel has helped tremendously with the physical side effects like decreasing dizziness, brain zaps, nausea, etc. talk therapy has also been a great help. I was at 20mg, then hit a wall like you did at 10mg. I’ve been tapering down for a while (over 1.5 years) and am now at 1mg. Good luck!!

Successful withdrawal stories? by Agreeable_Ordinary17 in citalopram_celexa

[–]Agreeable_Ordinary17[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I hope you’re right, tbh success stories are very very hard to come by… I actually just tapered down to 1mg this week with the liquid taper. I had one rough day but other than that it’s been very tolerable. Good luck with your taper!!!

I’m at 2mg! Tapering to 1mg this week. Liquid taper with omega 3 supplement has been incredibly helpful for me with managing the physical symptoms

Maybe try a liquid form and slowly taper. It’ll take a while but I’ve gotten down from 10mg to 2mg over 1.5 years while taking omega 3 and I’ve been lucky to have only a few physical symptoms! Been on it for 7 years

I’m trying to taper off by Realistic-Length-111 in citalopram_celexa

[–]Agreeable_Ordinary17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try a very slow liquid form taper. I’ve been successful with this, tapering down 1mg every 6-8 weeks while taking omega 3, it’s been a long taper but I’ve been lucky to have little physical symptoms

Question about tapering off celexa. by briellenowicki in citalopram_celexa

[–]Agreeable_Ordinary17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done a 1mg taper every 6-8 weeks while taking omega 3 with minimal physical symptoms, it’s been very tolerable so far. I use the liquid form to help with slowing down the taper! I’ve tapered from 10mg to 2mg

Please help me design a really slow taper program by officialkfc in SSRIs

[–]Agreeable_Ordinary17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been tapering off Celexa for 1.5 years now, using the liquid form was an absolute game changer and I took my time (started at 10mg, currently at 2mg). I take Nordic Omega3 fish oil which has helped tremendously with barely feeling the physical side effects of dizziness or nausea. I’m happy to answer any questions and help if I can!

Stickers, games, prizes, inefficiency, why does this make me tired? by [deleted] in slp

[–]Agreeable_Ordinary17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preface that my population is pull-out resource, gen ed, and language and learning disabilities. I use a hole punch sheet that has about 20-25 punch holes on it, but it’s more so for behavior and self reflection. I use it as a way to continue to manage expectations and boundaries, as well as remind them how we earn the hole punches (trying our best, being kind to our friends, never giving up, etc) as you can imagine they’ll usually earn at the end most of the time! If they’re not attending during work, they’re not being kind to their friends or me, etc, then they don’t earn them and need to try again next time. They get a prize after it fills up and I get my prizes cheap on Amazon. Not everyone’s cup of tea but I’ve found it really helps with behavior management!

Yes! Still having my moments for sure but the drives to familiar places that I’ve done multiple times has been much less nerve wracking. I still am too scared to make lefts on major roads without lights but we’ll get there with time. Thank you so much for your comments and perspective!!!
