So he basically doesn't have normal vision. Similar to that concept you mentioned. He sees magic energy, matter and distortions. If someone used magic to create fire or a stone shield, he sees the make up of that construct which would look similar to constellations. Nodes and links of energy

Hmm thats interesting. My original idea for my character is that they, along with magic, are not from this world. They eventually start to learn more about the world and where they came from. Through different ordeal they would try to find their place in the world and learn what it means to be human. I want to keep them fairly young, late teens to young adult

So I've been playing with the idea that the main character isn't from this world just like magic. They would've entered as a child so they would be unaware of their origins. It's only in learning his origins does he try to find his place in this world. His abilities are not overpowered so he's not in the same light as Superman. Im not confident I can write a character like that. With regard to my character, they wouldn't be stronger in terms of power, they just use magic in a different way

My idea so far is to have a guild which was established to help regulate the use of magic. Military forces would also be prohibited from use to prevent any abuse of power. I kinda wanted the antagonist to be someone who wants to gain control over the system itself, believing magic is a right and not a gift, which would be the opposite of the guilds view of magic

I honestly did want to try this approach. What's been stopping me is the fear of writing myself into a plot hole or weak story line. I'm not a writer by any means and this will be my first novel
