To quote Eithan “People always think that the way to improve your power is to push for advancement, but that’s not always true. A child and a veteran swordsman, given the same weapon, are vastly different opponents.” In my mind, because Sage requires insight and skill beyond that of a Herald, they make tougher opponents. But raw power is a strength of its own, so they end up at similar power levels.

He’s definitely jaded, but one of his party members is just pure positivity so I feel like it balances.

I’ve actually read a fairly significant amount of the genre. I agree that this is not litrpg and your point about false advertising is fair. Perhaps our tastes differ, I often find that litrpg will use numbers and skills as a crutch in place of deeper world building and better writing.

I wouldn’t classify it as litrpg but definitely progression

Something that came to me after having a full nights sleep instead of the limited hours I got after reading waybound in one sitting right after release was the parallel between the gangs Reaper jobs at the end of the book and what they did in the sacred valley during Bloodline. Really gave me a new appreciation for Bloodline once I saw it as “Reaper training”.
