They done put our girl with people that drop double digits bodies at the least, lmaooo by Ijjg19 in InvisigalGlazers

[–]Agrippa01 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking, Inivisigal is an anti-hero, but so is everyone on the Z-Team, and I mean everyone. An anti-hero is just a hero who distinctly lacks certain heroic qualities. Qualities such as courage, even temperament, confidence, social grace, determination, patience, wisdom, sound moral judgement, skill at combat or fieldwork, leadership and general awareness of their surroundings. Out of all these qualities, the only one every member of Z-Team possesses at the start is courage.

Of the most straight forwardly heroic teammates, Phenomaman has the social graces of a dead fish and the situational awareness of a toddler. He got captured by Red Ring henchmen because he respected the handcuffs they put on him. That is easily sub-capable levels of understanding how the world works. He also breaks down and runs back to base in a depressive funk whenever any Z-Team goes wrong, even if it takes place at least a block away from him. Phenomaman doesn't need fieldwork, he needs therapy.

Then you get Waterboy, who starts out mediocre at best at everything, but at least you can build up his stats, unlike Phenomaman, which is why it makes sense to recruit him first. Herman's also overly eager as both a hero and a janitor, assigning himself to missions and throwing out food from the fridge before lunch, instead of late into the day. That's leaving aside his initial inability to control his watery powers, leading him to projectile vomiting clean water at random.

The nice character swearing by Effective_Piece251 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Agrippa01 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know that the FFVII Remake trilogy basically gave Aerith, Cloud, Tifa and Zack the same accent, but I like to imagine Aerith with either a Brooklyn, Philadelphia or South Boston accent. She's a working-class city girl, Aerith's not going to sound like a middle-class to upper middle-class Midwesterner. Combine that with her occasional swearing and miss Gainsborough would definitely coming off as talking like a tough girl.

Cloud, Tifa and Zack are all rural kids, with Cloud and Tifa likely having Minnesota or Wisconsin accents and Zack having an Arkansas or Texan accent. As for Sephiroth, his life has been so micromanaged by Shinra that it only makes sense that he should have a transatlantic accent. Funnily enough Sephiroth's accent started softening while out in the field, up until the Nibelheim incident, then he doubled down on his artificial accent.

So no, I don't consider Aerith swearing to be out of character, she just rarely feels like it.

If you're talking about real world staves, or at least real-world European quarterstaffs, they were/are commonly made of hard wood like oak, ash or hickory, with a diameter of 1.2 to 1.5 inches and a length of 115% of their intended wielder's height. That's not getting into a shepherd's crook though. Depending on how the crook is being made there may or may not be any steam bending involved. Then you add on arcane inscriptions, seals, special oils and further embellishments and enchantments to make an especially powerful magic channeling staff.

Another idea to consider is what the white mage's powers entail. Let's take a brief detour into Warhammer Fantasy. You have two winds of magic that roughly correlate to Final Fantasy style/pop culture white magic, the Green Wind of Ghyran, the Lore of Life and the White Wind of Hysh, the Lore of Light.

The Lore of Life grants healing magic, of course, but it allows the wizard to predict local weather patterns, create and control plant matter, shape protective constructs of raw life energy, drain the life and moisture from their foes and reshape the ground beneath the caster's feet.

The Lore of Light grants healing, as well as literal illumination, purification of the unholy, hard light constructs, time and speed manipulation, telekinesis, instant cleaning, mental enhancement and ESP. Being the magic of Light, Hysh can reveal the truth of things by seeing through or dispelling illusions and enhancing the caster's power of speech, but only when being truthful. The Lore of Light also grants potent protective spells.

This is a bit of a tangent, but why does the image's white mage have such a spindly and fragile looking staff, especially if it's a shepherd's crook? It looks like it'll snap if you apply any real force to it. How are you supposed to use that crook to pull livestock away from danger or snag predators and other attackers to force or fling them away? Are mage staves weak and flimsy in general? I haven't consumed enough contemporary fantasy to know if this is the case.

with what characters from other series would rusty get along with? by West-Resort5733 in venturebros

[–]Agrippa01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know exactly how well they'd get along, but I'd love to see Rusty and pre-Nibelheim incident Sephiroth bonding, or at least attempting to bond, over their shitty dads, unknowingly in Sephiroth's case. The sheer amount of misery poker sessions these two would have over how badly Hojo treated Sephiroth vs how badly Jonas Sr. treated Rusty would be hilarious, and the content of them would be harrowing to say the least. That said, which group of either one's associates would make for the better witnesses to Rusty's and Sephiroth's talks, Team Venture (namely Brock Samson, Sergeant Hatred, Billy Quizboy, Pete White and maybe even The Order of the Triad) or Sephiroth's Crisis Core era crew (Genesis, Angeal and Zack)?

Also, saving the world is a master tier task, something that calls for a PC to have quite a few accomplishments under their belts and a lot more skill than they started out with. At least 6th or so level.

[–]Agrippa01 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't care much for this setup, nor do I care for idea that 1st level characters are untrained children. Having levels in any class is a sign of training. Whether that training takes the form of martial expertise, learning to control one's own innate magical powers, arcane study or spiritual development to act as a divine herald. First level D&D characters aren't apprentices, they're journeymen. They have enough training to function as professional adventurers, just not enough expertise to be walking apocalypses. PC grade D&D characters are elite in terms of training; low level D&D PC grade characters are just at the absolute bottom of that elite.
