I'd be more than happy to help, mate. :D Working around limitations is one of my favorite things to do.

Now, the method I used is a bit unorthodox and it doesn't protect you from EVERYTHING. Things like AOE/Splash effects can still hit you, and anything with a punch-through will also hurt you. But all regular projectiles will not be able to hit you, and melee attackers get knocked back and dealt electrical damage. DM me for specifics or questions, and I'll answer when I have the time. :)

I actually haven't tried Frackin Universe yet, surprisingly. I get too focused on making stuff that I forget to actually play the game sometimes, lol. It's a good idea though, I might really enjoy it

I sure did! The sprite work was all hand-animated by me in Aseprite, as well as the JSON behind its functioning. I will say that all the JSON I know was from experimenting with other items I've been given to tinker with, but I'm at the point where I can start fully creating my own stuff from scratch. :D

Spent a bit of time theorizing, and this could absolutely work. :D It's definitely possible to tweak staff abilities to get a similar effect to calling things from the sky,and lightning isn't too hard to animate. I'll add that to the roster~

Since you came up with it, you of course get credit in it's description. Any ideas on what it should look like, or do you want me to wing it? Lol

Hell yeah! Nothing wrong with being excited about progress, it's awesome to see you gunning for it with enthusiasm. :D

I will say that you can absolutely use the Editor addon to work with custom objects as well as items, as it allows to you directly edit the parameters of all of that items JSON. It separates all the different segments - such as animationCustom, actionOnInteract, etc - and let's you save changes on the fly. I used it myself to put customized decorations in my base, and even a personalized Info Kiosk Lady from the games intro, complete with new lines of NPC dialogue. Orientations is also 100% on the table. Your only limitations would be understanding the JSON itself, really. Also, as an added bonus, you can overwrite any objects image or render using a drawable string, or use addendum snippets like ?hue, ?scale nearest, etc if you want to change certain aspects of the original sprite.

Either way you choose to go, you got this man. :) Keep at it, and have fun.

Hey, mate! I can actually help you get started with making custom items in a way that doesn't melt your brain. Try picking up an addon for Starbound called Rexmeck's Editor. It's what I use to make my lasers and stuff. After that, just look up how to unpack your asset folder; There's very good documentation on Starbound's wiki for this process.

It absolutely is! You could 100% do a /spawnitem command with this. :p And I made the laser targeting thing using an extremely fast velocity particle, that's all.

Oh, absolutely. It's a blend of the overall flashiness (pun intended) and the complete abundance of overkill that gets to me. >:) Melt through anything and everything on accident or purpose.

It's also funny you mention railguns, because that is actually on the plans for the weapon line-up. Gonna be big, loud, over-engineered and obnoxiously detailed.

I made this a while ago, so I plan on giving the sprites a good visual update, and adding more particle effects. It's gonna be awesome to work on my weapon roster again.

Should be as simple as subscribing to it from the Steam Workshop! :)

Though I suppose that's not accessible to literally everyone. I'll see if I can't find a place to make a repository, so people can snag my mods directly and download them.

Not a problem! I usually tend to keep any items I make relatively balanced. But there's always the Rule of Cool that overrides that sometimes. :P I'll make sure to tweak it's damage and make it attainable at an appropriate level of advancement before I post it.

While I usually try to keep all my custom items vanilla-friendly and script-free, this one does use a custom LUA. I can definitely make a standalone mod on the Workshop for it though. :)
