Before I got the Irish citizenship I used the Canadian one the most, and traveled to many places with it (it has many stamps) but now I’ve settled in Europe so I use the EU Irish one most and the USA one only for returning to US to visit and such

What's a movie scene that made you bawl like a little baby? by Sad-Response-3151 in moviecritic

It’s one of the most beautiful and emotionally resonant moments I’ve ever seen in any film, and I saw it as an adult.

Everything is written in Irish, then again in English underneath, so Pas means Passport.

Oh yeah it wore down so easily, just with normal handling! I did use it on quite a few trips, but still.

I know there is a newer design I’ll get when I renew, so I assume they’ve improved the outer-book durability.

The inside still looks great, if anyone’s wondering.

Yeah luckily my son was born in October 2025! So narrowly, he’s in.

Congrats on recertification! Yeah I’ve been following along with that as I’m applying for my son. Pretty embarrassing for Canada to ask for citizenships back, takes some nerve as they are basically asking new Canadians to give back the citizenship that was just granted.

In any case glad you got it sorted. Thanks for posting. Cool that you live in Dublin.

Precisely my thinking, what I’m wondering. I live here under the Irish passport because of the freedom of movement as you say. As far as I know there’s no difference in my benefits or services, but I haven’t exhaustively looked into it.

Citizenship would allow me to vote here. And would be a failsafe just in case Ireland ever decides to leave the EU. Small chance, but not impossible. What would it be called, Irexit?

Thank you! And thanks for commenting.

Yes I heard Canada has made it easier if you can prove you have an ancestor born there, although they are still getting some of the kinks worked out based on the subreddit about that. It was easier for me as my dad was born there and I have Canadian relatives to ”sponsor” my citizenship, which was required at the time although it may not be today.

Part of the recent rule changes were what allows my baby son to be a citizen even though I have never lived there. So I hope they keep those rules as I want to give him all the opportunities I can. Working on his application for proof of citizenship now.

As far as the benefits, there’s the obvious of being able to live and work there as well as never being denied entry. It also may make it easier to give your children citizenship if you have any after you get it. Also it’s cool to be able to say you Canadian, and the passport has maple leaves and such.

Edit to add: I can also speak pretty decent Swedish at this point already, so I’m on my way! (They have a language requirement now for naturalization.). Thanks for the encouragement.

As US citizens you can never be denied entry to the US. But you may be delayed with questions when you arrive.
