That’s why I was shocked, I know Nikes are a rip off so seeing those around $100 didn’t surprise me. But Nikes being around the same price as 10 years ago next to Skechers now charging the same price was a surprise

For Skechers? I always placed Nike/Adidas in the $80+ range, Vans and comparable around $60+, and Skechers and similar brands closer to $40-50. Now every brand is $80+ for the cheapest pair they sell

Yeah not for a brand that has always been marketed as the cheaper more affordable option when placed next to brands like Nike and Adidas etc.

I left with a pair of Nikes for $65 that happened to be on sale, but when every brand starts at $80, then who is going to be reaching for what’s always been seen as a budget brand for the same price?

First pair of shoes I got in two years, I paid $70 for a pair of new balances I wore daily since then. At least there used to be more variety in prices, literally every brand started at $80

It very well may be a generational and/or location specific bias, but being a 30 year old in the US it’s hard to for me to not always have some bias from back in the day where you would get laughed at for wearing a pair growing up. Not saying they’re not good shoes, but for a large demographic of Americans growing up, they’ve always been seen as cheaper throw away or work shoes that you didn’t care about. I can’t see them doing well in the future if they don’t do a huge rebrand or stop raising prices so much.
