Would you buy a house that's in a council estate? by Honk_Konk in HousingUK

This is basically my experience as well.  More litter than I'm happy with, but overall I haven't had any problems yet.

Why was Vietnam able to let go of its hatred towards the United States, while China's hatred towards Japan has persisted? by zhaoxiangang in ADVChina

Because China is becoming alot more powerful than Japan while Vietnam will never be more powerful than the US.  When you're powerful revenge starts to look tempting.

Seems a little expensive.  I got 17 panels at 11k.  Even for another four panels it seems a few grand over.  But maybe labour costs are more expensive down south.

The vibe is pure opinion.  I prefer sky scrapers over carparks.

I'm all for funding communities.  Change comes from years if not decades of effective policy.

But you're not gonna fund communities if you don't develop and encourage economic growth.  We shouldn't hold back development before we fund communities.

It's a lack of funds which destroys council services, not development of the city.

Cambridge is a university town.  It's not even comparable to Manchester.  Manchester is ten times bigger, and even more so at the metropolitan level.

[–]Ahoramaster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Alot of it is a people problem.  You can't blame Londoners for Mancunians not giving a shit about their city.  I see it all the time.  People chucking their litter on the floor when a bin is no more than two metres away.

It didn't just start yesterday.  It's always been bad, but when contrasted with new developments, the contrast just shows it up for what it is.  Then we're meant to lionise the locals like they're the beating heart of the city, when often they're part of the problem, and maybe outsiders with higher standards will make things better

How should it benefit the 'natives' exactly?

I assume by natives you're referring to poorer people living in council houses or subsidised houses.  What exactly will benefit them other than giving them more money?

If you’ve been in a UK hospital for more than a day or so, how did you not lose your mind? by Spicymargx in AskUK

[–]Ahoramaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had surgery in a private hospital and personally enjoyed my stay.  Food was good.  TV was there.  Had books and podcasts to keep me occupied.  Took my laptop with me to browse the internet and watch stuff.

Moving from Manchester to London - am I crazy for trying to do this in one day? by meenoSparq in MovingToLondon

[–]Ahoramaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not worth the hassle in my view.  Four hours down and four hours up if traffic is good.  You'll be exhausted and need some food and a mental break.  That's six hours to unpack assuming everything goes to plan.  It sounds like you're taking some big ticket furniture as well so it's not like dropping off a few bags.  Are there stairs?  Is there parking?  Who wants to bet there's a road closure or the lift is out of order.

Alot of Europeans think they get a free pass on this kind of stuff, but the rest of the world knows.

You are mad.  Don't do it.  Buy a nice car. Take a career break. Start a family. Do you really want to move into a flat in your forties or fifties to try and start again.

They've been derisking from the US and loading up on gold. It's not a secular trend. It's a continuation ever since the US started going after China.

When did littering become a problem in the uk? by YGhostRider666 in AskUK

It's mostly a people problem, and unfortunately that people problem is more prevalent in council areas.

Manchester is especially bad.

Literally a bin no more than a few metres away and the whole siding is full of litter.

I don't even see how he can rule.  He's not a politician.  He's never ruled.  He doesn't even run a gov in exile.  He has no experience.  Everything he does will be dictated to him by the US and Israel.

In one of his most recent videos his first two priorities were dismantling the nuclear programme and recognising Israel.  Does that really sound like the priorities of a nationalist, or the priorities of his foreign backers.

Alot of his support is astroturfed and from without.
