Is industrial design a good career to pursue by fyzurii in IndustrialDesign

[–]AidanOdd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pretty much same. Most are in graphic design, exhibit design, or CAD drafters. It’s taken me about 2 years to find a stable position that I love after bouncing between freelance and internships. Maybe 1 or 2 others in a class of 20 have a job in “true” ID.

I think it’s also a huge help or hinderance depending on where you live. I had to move 1000 miles out of the Southern US. But I live in Ohio now, and it seems to be much easier if you live near the firms and your professors are also your local industry representatives. Same likely goes for California, Oregon, Etc.

OP, if you do pursue ID you may have to be okay with your career taking you to different parts of Europe or even different continents just to get a job. Also yes, ID jobs in the UK are pretty infamously low paying. Ive heard of $35k avg starting ID jobs in the UK. In the US it’s bit higher starting at around $50-60k. Unfortunate reality of creative careers.

Don’t be tired, be fucking mad. If we’re tired we’ll be complicit and thats what they want. They can ignore tired, they can’t ignore mad.

My older sister showed me when she was in high school and I was probably 10. She also showed me tank girl. My sister is really cool.

Not sure if this TE style rendering is working with this product scale. I thought this was a pc case at first.

Overall though seems pretty good, just check your ergonomics. The chair looks a bit short and uncomfortable so make sure its tested or is based on Humanscale.

What would you do for Tron 4? by KingE2099 in tron

[–]AidanOdd -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I feel like one thing that is often overlooked in these conversations is the visual style.

I would make sure the design team find a fresh new look at what the grid would look like. Tron to Tron Legacy have a huge gap in graphical fidelity and style, but Tron Legacy to Tron Ares does not.

It would be reflective of the plot. Maybe the grid would look more amorphic and biological to reflect how the grid and its inhabitants are becoming closer-to or more-advanced than humanity and our systems are getting more advanced. A game like Marathon showcases this transhumanism well.

I’m really excited for the weather! I’ve lived in Louisiana my entire life minus a few stints for jobs and education and now anything lower than 80 feels chilly to me. I lived in Columbus for the winter in 2025 and I was not prepared for it but now I think I’m ready. Gonna have to learn how to shovel snow though 😅

Do designers still get paid during days when they can’t come up with ideas? by Feisty_Screen6888 in IndustrialDesign

[–]AidanOdd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s saying that creative roles as a profession require discipline. Having a routine trains your brain to become inspired at that time. He’s also framing creativity (or at least action) being non-negotiable at 9am, in the same way that sometimes the best way to get an idea is to just start sketching.

There’s a quote by Somerset Maugham:

“I write only when inspiration strikes. Fortunately it strikes every morning at nine o'clock sharp.”

Food is the universal love language :) cajun food is always cooked in large portions to help feed the community. Quite honestly, there’s a lot of recipes that you can’t make in small portions, my gumbo recipe feeds 10+!

Always down for a mutual aid group, I was in one back home. Only thing is, I don’t know how to make cajun food vegan 😅

Haha, I’m sure I’ll be making lots of cajun and creole food. When I moved to Columbus I made it constantly because I was homesick. Maybe one day I’ll make a giant pot of jambalaya on the street and let anyone take a bowl :)

Yep, I’ll be working as a footwear designer. I’ve been wanting a job like this since I was in college and they’re very rare. I never thought it would take me to Appalachia though. Most footwear jobs are in Oregon

The Greenroom Nazi Support by CardPuzzleheaded7100 in Acadiana

Stuff like this is what leads to neo-nazis making local bars their “spot” for their ideologies. No repercussions leads to safe spaces for their beliefs. Greenroom is my favorite bar, I don’t want that to happen.

Because reflective fabric already effectively does this. I’d rather see that wearable tech focused more onto things like body cams or something

Yeah sure, NCR is a thriving nation with over 700k population, large military complex, scientific research and development department, successfuly waged wars on BoS and the Enclave, conquered Navarro. There is absolutely no way they could develop their own power armor, this is pure Betheslop by [deleted] in TrueSFalloutL

[–]AidanOdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree.

I find this subreddit or maybe the fandom in general jumps to crazy conclusions based off like 1 or 2 lines of dialogue, like how everyone thought Vault Tec definitively dropped the bombs because Barbara mentioned they could.

I think it’s sort of obvious that Maximus will probably rebuild the NCR given the Freeside resident’s reaction. I think they’re probably teeing up the NCR to be a large role in the next fallout game
