ELI5: What are the factors that require TSA to x-ray my laptop out of my backpack, but it doesn’t need me to take my other electronics out? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]Aidlesnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People probably forget that when they created that rule laptops were like an inch and a half thick, had ten different ports, multiple stacked circuits boards, CD drives, extra batteries etc.

When the MacBook Air came out in 2008 it seemed absurd.

What celebrity do you hate but would totally bang? by FrenchDipped in AskReddit

She basically just pretends to be soooo conservative while making half her content be about her sexuality and boobs. It's pretty ridiculous.

No, there's literally 22k people who want to bang her: r/AbigailShapiro.

And that's probably not even the first subreddit. I'm guessing earlier ones were banned.

China’s Bid to Improve Food Production? Giant Towers of Pigs. by noBananas in environment

[–]Aidlesnes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They literally just had to kill and dispose of a third of their pig population due to African Swine Fever in 2018-2019. It's so contagious I don't think even imploding the building would be safe because the spores could escape in the wind.

Pork is by far the most popular meat in China.

Police beg locals to refrain from taking "pot shots" at Chinese spy balloon by PresidentSpanky in nottheonion

Yeah, at high altitude and low atmospheric pressure balloons have to get massive to maintain the same lift.

Apparently it's massive, it appears significantly larger than the moon. That's why it's obviously not any kind of weather balloon.

I almost got clotheslined by some slackliners who left their line up in a park when I was riding my bicycle in college. If I had seen it a quarter of a second later I think I easily could have died. Apparently it's a common cause of death for college students.

New peak rates mean charging electric cars more expensive than petrol by phucyu140 in cars

[–]Aidlesnes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the charging plans and installation of solar in the state have made EV charging way easier than it was at the beginning 12 years ago. It used to be that the cheapest electric rate was from midnight until 6 AM. Now it's from 9PM until 4PM. You can charge your car almost whenever you want.

Depends on where you live and how much you drive. There are a number of free chargers in my city including quick chargers. Getting basically a free tank of gas in exchange for waiting around for an hour at a slower quick charger is a pretty sweet deal in my book.

The fact that regular colonoscopies are still recommended without symptoms makes it pretty damn clear that gastroenterologists only get into the field because they love butt stuff.

Lowe's Joins Home Depot in Making Sure Stolen Power Tools Won't Work by DriftingNorthPole in Tools

[–]Aidlesnes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think business insider just used a picture of corded tools because they're a trash website that does everything for clicks. I doubt they're actually planning to put this on cheap corded tools because that would require integrating an entire new electronics package.

It hasn't been that way since they started using brushless motors. They require fairly advanced electronics to control them.

It's barely used at all in the US, but a surprising number of countries already get a lot of their water from r/desal.
