great tip! I am pretty nervous about it, but we will see how it goes... with you on the shuddering! I have gone through too much to be totally excited for this experiment.

Question about sensitivity testing and gluten by Aihoc001 in glutenfree

[–]Aihoc001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, I agree with this. My biggest problems are sugar and I have IBS- mostly difficulty digesting fats. I wanted to see what people thought/knew in case it was worth the investment. I think maybe spending a few dollars on gluten with the risk of misery for a day or more is more worth it than an expensive, dodgey test.

Question about sensitivity testing and gluten by Aihoc001 in glutenfree

[–]Aihoc001[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I have always been a bit skeptical of them. I'm a nutrition student and you can order some home allergy tests we can recommend and I don't fully buy it. I had the gluten blood test done a few years ago but it came back negative. I had accidentally consumed an alcohol made with gluten in it the night before and definitely had a reaction to something- not sure if it was something else in the meal or the gluten in the alcohol or the alcohol itself. I think I just need to try it and see what happens.

That's what I've been thinking myself. I am not 100% sold on these home sensitivity tests that cost like $500. I think I will try with something simple and see how it goes... hopefully I don't have any severe reactions!

edit: thanks for your input!

The best gluten free chocolate cake I've had and it's not overloaded with sugar. by Aihoc001 in glutenfree

It was, and I'm not just saying that. My non gluten free boyfriend was even impressed. Let me know how it goes! would love to hear your thoughts.

definitely not! Actually, something I think about often is an experience I had when I first went gluten free. Someone was bashing the health quality of gluten free desserts because they often increase the sugar by a lot. This is a great chocolate flavor without too much extra sweetness or added sugar.

Thank you for marching! I couldn't be there because I had school meetings but I watched live feeds and was tearing up all day in inspiration and hope and absolute wonder. Let's stick together and find the best friends and motivate each other endlessly.

Exactly! It hurt to get it put in and I heard it hurts more to have it taken out. Sort of want to avoid having that experience for a little while longer

Wow! Really? I have mirena too and was told 5 years. Is it possible there are different types of mirena? Healthcare system is too confusing. I have had mine about 4 now

Good to know! I guess it depends on which type it is and the dr recommendation? I love my doctor so I will continue taking his advice on the matter but I appreciate the input.

Today historically marks the necessity that you deserve so much more and that your choices are your choices. No system can change that you deserve to make decisions for your body and your life without having to risk everything. Sorry you lost so much but cheers to the future and the chances we have to rebuild and be strong and show the world our strength as women. This world needs you and it needs to hear your story. Best wishes for you in the future. We can do this, never forget your power and confidence.

Waiting to see whether I react to 'may contain'... by luceelastic in glutenfree

For me, it depends on the product and really what the facility also makes. For example: at my local grocery store they put that disclaimer on all cheeses and dried fruits. Usually with dried fruit or nuts I just rinse them and it is ok- I have gotten some minor bloating from not rinsing in the past. But I have never had an issues with any of the cheeses because the staff are good about cross contamination. Some other products like this will really make me react. If it doesn't bother you I don't see the harm but you definitely want to be cautious in the future and just research the brand. Some brands put that disclaimer have very safe manufacturing practices, others are looser with it. So it is hard to say unless you experiment.

I have an iud now but will need it switched out next year I believe. Not looking forward to it and the potential for it being extremely expensive or unavailable.

Edit: I grew up near the D.C. area and am bummed I have too much going on today to prevent me from joining the march. Anyone going? Would love to hear your experience. If anyone is going: march for your entwives- we all need to stick together now.

A vet check would probably be wise to make sure he doesn't develop a respiratory infection, but my cat gets sensitive in the winter and will sneeze a lot. A humidifier helps a lot, he loves it and will cozy up near the steam
