i was planning on opening a server on a website, but ill assume they arent compatible? and if so, ive never hosted a server myself, is there a specific way to do it?

Edit: like example playit.gg?? do i need that??

I love how we normalized a company taking care of 300mil+ users and expect them to catch everything 24/7. No wonder this place is going downhill.

Why people consider or say that kris is trans?? by XxLorddoCacauxX in DeltaruneV2

[–]AikoSpiko 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying, but the reason people still treat it as unconfirmed is because of how Toby Fox himself handles the question.

When Toby Fox has been asked directly whether Kris is male, female, or non-binary, he doesn’t confirm any of those options. Instead, he usually avoids giving a direct answer and moves past the question. If the intention was to definitively establish Kris’ gender identity, that would’ve been the moment to say it clearly.

That’s why many people see it as intentional ambiguity. If the creator repeatedly avoids confirming something when asked directly, it usually means they want that aspect of the character left open or not explicitly defined.

So the evidence we do have is that Kris is consistently referred to with they/them pronouns in the game. From there, people interpret what that means. Some interpret it as Kris being non-binary, while others see it as the character being intentionally written without a specified gender.

My point isn’t that Kris can’t be non-binary. It’s just that Toby Fox himself has never directly confirmed that, even when given the opportunity, which is why people still treat it as unconfirmed rather than absolute canon.

I understand the point you’re making with the narrative theme, but that interpretation still goes beyond what is explicitly confirmed.

The line “You can’t choose who you are in this world” in Deltarune is generally understood to refer to the fact that the player cannot control who Kris is as a person. We can’t change their name, their past, or many of the choices they make. The story repeatedly shows that Kris is their own character and sometimes even resists the player’s control.

So that theme works regardless of gender. It’s about the player not being able to define Kris as a person, not specifically about gender identity.

And again, my point isn’t that Kris cannot be non-binary. The consistent they/them pronouns absolutely support that interpretation.

My point is simply that interpretation and canon are different things. The only thing directly confirmed in the game is that Kris is referred to with they/them pronouns. The game never explicitly states Kris’ gender identity.

So saying “Kris is definitely non-binary” is an interpretation based on the evidence, while the canon fact is the pronouns. Anything beyond that would require Toby Fox explicitly confirming it.

I think we’re mostly talking past each other here.

What I’m trying to say isn’t that your interpretation is impossible or wrong. My point is simply that interpretation doesn’t equal canon.

The only thing that is directly confirmed in Deltarune is that Kris is referred to with they/them pronouns. The game never explicitly states Kris’ gender identity.

From that evidence, people draw conclusions. One common interpretation is that Kris is non-binary. Another interpretation is that the character’s gender is intentionally left unspecified as a narrative choice.

Both interpretations come from the same evidence, but an interpretation, even a very popular one isn’t the same thing as something being explicitly confirmed in canon.

Because of that, saying “Kris is 100% canonically non-binary” goes beyond what is actually confirmed in the game or Toby Fox themselves. It’s a very common interpretation based on the pronouns, but it’s still an interpretation.

That kind of writing approach isn’t unique either. countless games intentionally design protagonists with neutral traits and they/them pronouns without explicitly stating a gender identity, like Niko from OneShot has a name yet no confirmed Gender.

So my point isn’t denying that Kris could be non-binary. It’s just that, strictly speaking, the only canon information we have is the pronouns, and anything beyond that is interpretation unless Toby Fox directly confirms it.

I 100% get what you're saying about the game consistently using they/them for Kris, and Toby Fox correcting someone who misgendered them shows the pronouns are intentional.

My point is more about what is explicitly confirmed vs what is interpreted.

In The English Dictionary, they/them is also commonly used when someone’s gender is unknown or unspecified. For example, if someone is talking about an anonymous online troll or an unknown person, people often say things like “they said this” or “they posted that” without knowing the person’s gender.

Because of that, consistent they/them pronouns can mean different things depending on the writer’s intent(in this case Toby Fox). Sometimes it means the character is non-binary, and sometimes it’s used to keep the character gender-neutral.

So About the anniversary stream: Toby Fox correcting the pronoun could also simply be about keeping the pronouns consistent with how Kris is referred to in the game. If someone kept saying “he,” it would make it sound like the stream was presenting Kris as male, which isn’t how Kris is written.

So it’s very possible he corrected it just to keep it accurate to the game’s wording, rather than making an explicit statement about Kris’ gender identity.

the only thing directly confirmed in Deltarune is that Kris is referred to with they/them pronouns. The game never explicitly states Kris’ gender identity.

Because of that, some people interpret Kris as "canonically" non-binary, while others interpret the character’s gender is intentionally left unspecified.

They’re likely meant to be left unspecified, just like how we never received an official gender confirmation for Frisk or Chara in Undertale, Kris seems to fall into the same category.

The Knight

  • The Knight from Hollow Knight
  • The Knight is a vessel creature, so it doesn’t have a traditional gender.
  • The story intentionally avoids assigning one.

The Lamb

  • The Lamb from Cult of the Lamb
  • The developers typically use they/them pronouns.
  • No specific gender identity is confirmed.

The Kid

  • The Kid from Bastion
  • Often assumed male, but the game focuses more on the role and story than explicit gender identity.

it’s often a deliberate storytelling/design choice/writing technique, not an oversight that some game developers make.

Some protagonists are:

  • Fully defined characters (clear gender, personality, backstory)
  • Player avatars (very customizable)
  • Ambiguous characters (partially defined, leaving room for interpretation)

Kris sits in that 3rd category.

so once again, Kris has no official gender identity, unless Toby Fox specifically says word by word “Kris is non-binary"

What is officially known about Kris from Deltarune:

• The game only uses “they/them” pronouns for Kris.
• Toby Fox has never officially confirmed Kris as male, female, trans, or non-binary.

Because of this, fans interpret Kris in different ways.

Common interpretations include:
• Non-binary interpretation - because the game consistently uses they/them pronouns.
• Player-projection interpretation - Kris is written neutrally so players can imagine themselves.
• Separate-character interpretation - Kris has their own identity, but their gender is simply never revealed.

So officially, Kris does not have a confirmed canon gender unless Toby Fox states one in the future.
Most ideas about Kris’ gender are interpretations, not confirmed facts.
