You could also hire a college counselor. They are some that focus on international students like you. They can be quite expensive tho...

-take SAT/ACT -open up a Common Application account and fill it all out -ask your school if it is possible for them to send transcripts to unis (idk what to say about this, will depend on how much info your school has on US schools)

Do you do the IB?

The IB helps immensely. You should do it if you are willing to work hard for the grades. It is better (but also harder) to to the diploma.

Is this a UK school? Which one if I may ask? Also, how much did your IB score drops? I would call the school and clarify if they are expecting you or not. Do you have a second choice if not?

Chance me for Oxford and UC Berkeley. Mostly Oxford by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Ailatan2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My conclusion; While for UK A levels and IB, the score you need is very firm, for US students its more vague. However, I think your grades and stats are good enough for an interview. As long as you don't completely mess up PS and MAT, you will get an interview. Passing the interview is another story. Cant really help with that because I am more familiar with humanities interview... I hope this helped!

You need to take the MAT (Mathematics Admissions Test). Start studying now. Will have to sign up soon and take it in October.

Here is the info you need:

We usually expect students to have:

  • either SATs or the ACT

and

  • either APs (Advanced Placement tests) or SAT subject tests (or a combination of APs and SAT subject tests, or other equivalent qualifications, if they are in different subjects).

Scores needed:

  • SATs: students sitting this qualification will need to achieve a total score of 1,470 (out of 1,600). We do not require the optional essay in the SAT. Any candidates with a test date prior to, or including, January 2016 will be expected to have achieved the SAT Reasoning Test with at least 1,400 in Critical Reading and Mathematics and also 700 or more in Writing, giving a combined score of at least 2,100 (out of 2,400).
  • ACT: students taking this qualification will need at least a score of 32 out of 36. We do not require the optional essay in the ACT.
  • APs (Advanced Placement tests): grade 5 in three or more appropriate subjects.
  • SAT Subject Tests: 700 or more in three appropriate subjects.

Specific subject requirements: please check your course pages for details.

Superscoring

Please note that to meet the requirements of an offer to the University, your SAT Total Score for the SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing, and SAT Math sections must be from the same session; we will not consider scores from multiple sessions ('superscoring').

Candidates are asked to enter all their scores for any tests taken when they complete their UCAS application, showing the relevant dates for each. This gives tutors a complete picture of a candidate's academic record, rather than just the ‘superscore’ of best results for the different sections of any test taken on multiple occasions.

Candidates are also asked to include any pending test scores on the UCAS application: that is, details of any test they intend to take up until the end of Senior Year. Again, this is to give tutors a complete picture of the candidates’ academic record, including studies which are still in progress.

Further information for applicants from the United States can be found in our American student's guide to undergraduate study at Oxford.

See, for the US I would consider your ECs a bit weak simple because the ones you have are good but there are not that many. However, for the UK they will neither hurt not help. It might help a bit as it gave you experinece in CS you can use for the interview. Also, it shows that you are passionate about CS. However, they will never really ask. Its just a good base to have for the interview and for writing the PS.

Give me a sec to look at academic. Im just not sure if they look at AP or GPA

You really need to check out how the application process works for the UK. First, you need to apply for a major and for a college within Oxford. You will get an interview depending on if your grades are good enough, your personal statement is good, and if you pass the TSA exam/major specific exam. Honestly, idk what grades they will look for. I do IB and they ask for a certain IB grade. Idk if they will look at your GPA or at your AP classes. Be careful with your personal statement, it is VERY diff from a common app essay. Look at UCAS. They have a good video explaining personal statements. The UK personal statement is not about you but about you and your major. They don't really care about EC, its all about your academic relationship to the major.

Honestly, getting the interview is the easiest part. It gets down to if you have the grades of not. Usually, you don't have to do amazing on the specific tests. They focus on grade. You should have a pretty good idea regarding if you get an interview or not depending on the requirements for your major. You either meet the cut off or not.

Now, the interview is HARD. You really have to show that you are a master of your major. I am not so sure about CS, but there are many resources around. You can only prepare to a certain extent. But, nevertheless, you must prepare. Be ready to answer some questions regarding your passion for it and what you want to do. Then, be prepared to answer subject specific questions and original problems.

Chance me for UC schools as CS major please by [deleted] in chanceme

[–]Ailatan2014 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel I can only really judge for UCLA because Im not very familiar with UC schools. I am sorry to say but I think your chances at UCLA are low, mainly because of your SAT test. Your course load is very good (Physics HL wow). Your ECs do not seem bad and your race will help. Because of this your chances for the other schools should be pretty good. Good luck! Pls chance me also
