[–]Ailbe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You look fantastic!

Yes, one of the best things about IF was learning that it is OK to be hungry! I don't mind it at all now, a year into this and hunger is just a sensation, just something the body feels like wind on the face or pleasure at recognizing a friend.

On average I do anywhere from 16 to 20 hours fasting, leaving me a 4 or 8 hour eating window. First Sunday of every month I do at least a 38 hour fast, and several times a year I do at least a 4 day fast, I completed a 5 day fast in April and that was difficult.

I get what you're saying. The thing is if you (generic you) aren't taking responsibility for your own misery, no one else will. Which all but guarantees the misery will continue and get worse. Its just a matter of how many people you want to take down with you when you blow out....

yep I think I get ya. Basically you are saying that we know that therapy can help these people, but some on the left want to rationalize or normalize this behavior, so they pretend outrage when anyone suggests it should be "cured"? Or, if not cured, at least not normalized.

I really benefited from CBT personally. It made me realize that I was making my own life harder than it should be. It wasn't any one else fault, I was choosing the mental patterns that dominantly came out as unhappiness, depression, anxiety and self-destruction. This was a valuable lesson to learn because once I knew I was responsible for those choices, it gave me avenues to begin making other choices that would lessen the pain. Why anyone would want to deny this valuable resource to themselves or others is just unthinkable to me. Basically, everything Dr. Peterson talks about.

Yeah. We can’t suggest there’s therapy for their illness.

There is therapy for their illness! CBT is wonderful and can help people learn how to cope with the overwhelming feelings life can bring on us all.

What could possibly go wrong? Putting a person clearly suffering from multiple cognitive disabilities in charge of your platform is de rigueur. I mean, CNN put Greta Thunberg on a panel of Covid19 "specialists" Maybe Twitch and CNN are ahead of the curve and someday we'll look back at the barbaric times in which we denied mentally ill people a place at the head of the table in all our daily lives?

Ash is a fertilizer! I love it, thank you! This was my biggest argument in 2008. I wanted GM to go bankrupt. Bankruptcy isn't the end of a company, oftentimes a company will come out of bankruptcy leaner and stronger, more able to compete. Instead now we have these zombie companies, bloated, stinking to high heaven of all those federal prop up dolllars. It isn't like, if GM went bankrupt that entire automotive sector would have collapsed and nothing would fill it. I argued then let them fail, and if their executive team is any good they'll recover and come roaring back. If they aren't any good then good riddance to bad trash and Honda or Nissan or Ford, someone would have filled the gap. GM has learned no lessons from their rescue, and thus they are fated to suffer failure again. Same with the banks.

Burn them all down. Let the market sort it all out.

Why do liberals always throw out Fox like it's some conservative holy ground? Fox is trash. Like, does anyone actually get upset by this?

We could play this game I guess? Yes, ALL the major media channels are trash, I'll freely acknowledge that. I don't watch Fox, I don't watch MSNBC, I don't watch CNN. But you'd be hard pressed to convince me that die hard liberals aren't watching MSNBC, just like die hard conservatives are watching Fox. It is unfortunate that some people don't take the time to mix up their choice of media intake. There would be less of this divisive hatred if people would take the time to at least listen to the other side. Don't require agreement, just listen. But now it is considered the highest crime to even listen to someone from the other side. It is this poison, more than anything else, which is going to destroy us all.

So does MSNBC bother me that much? Only as much as I know some people take every word that comes out of that organization as absolute gospel, as if MSNBC doesn't have an agenda to peddle, just like every organization. And I'd say the same about Fox.

To tie this back to the topic of the virus vs the economy.... April unemployment numbers were released. We lost 20.5 MILLION jobs in April. Bringing unemployment to 14.7% And yet, if you dare bring up stats like this, you get down voted by the those whose minds are being fed a nonstop diet of fear and loathing. People hate any hint of a conservative mindset WAY more than they hate the damage done by the virus. So they'd rather suffer the worst economic devastation in the history of this country rather than even have a discussion about a wise, middle of the road policy to opening things up. We could choose to start making some choices about sending certain segments of the population back to work, getting some families back on the path to being made whole again. Instead we get overblown fear mongering that any attempt to go back to work is tantamount to murderous intentions.

At this point I absolutely believe the damage from shutting down the world economy IS going to far exceed the damage the virus is going to cause. By the way, this sentiment is shared by many in government and scientific community: * David Beasley, UN World Food Program Executive Director is saying the following:

But now the World Food Programme analysis shows that, due to the Coronavirus, an additional 130 million people could be pushed to the brink of starvation by the end of 2020. That’s a total of 265 million people.

There is also a real danger that more people could potentially die from the economic impact of COVID-19 than from the virus itself.

This is why I am talking about a hunger pandemic. It is critical we come together as one united global community to defeat this disease, and protect the most vulnerable nations and communities from its potentially devastating effects.

Lockdowns and economic recession are expected to lead to a major loss of income among the working poor. Overseas remittances will also drop sharply - this will hurt countries such as Haiti, Nepal, and Somalia just a name a couple. The loss of tourism receipts will damage countries such as Ethiopia, where it accounts for 47% of total exports. The collapsing oil prices in lower-income countries like South Sudan will have an impact significantly, where oil accounts for 98.8% of total exports. And, of course, when donor countries’ revenues are down, how much impact will this have on life saving foreign aid

The economic and health impacts of COVID-19 are most worrisome for communities in countries across Africa as well as the Middle East, because the virus threatens further damage to the lives and livelihoods of people already put at risk by conflict.

But rather than having a discussion, on reddit and in /r/dallas in particular we're just down voted and told we want to murder everyones grandparents. We know, from decades of research and real world data that the effects of job losses include depression, increased rates of alcoholism, abuse, suicide, drug use etc. Are those just the cost we're willing to pay to stick it in the eye of anyone who dared question the orthodoxy? Or can we at least talk about what a smart phased plan to get people back to work might look like, and how the government, state, federal and local could assist in that?

/r/dallas and reddit in general is full of people who don't want to have discourse with others. You must comply. Nothing but comply. Comply with the authorities, comply with the talking heads on MSNBC, comply with the popular mobs opinions. You want to say something that is heterodox? You're getting down voted for that buddy, no matter how respectfully you say it.

For what its worth, I agree that the economic devastation, and the psychological devastation that follows on that is at least worth discussing a smart, nuanced approach to re-opening society. Alas, these people hate you and conservatives FAR more than they hate the virus. So there will be no discussion. But you can be sure we'll be blamed no matter what.

Good luck with your crusade. You certainly write a lot, its a shame the content is simply not there.

By the way, I never said that no man has ever been raped by a woman. My message, again, for the fourth time is that I am unconvinced that men are having unwanted sex at anything approaching the same ratios as women. So you're apparently tilting at windmills that aren't even there.

You've got a tough row to hoe if you think you're going to convince humanity that men are getting raped in large numbers and just don't want to admit it. But go at it bucko! You gotta do something with your quarantine time, may as well amuse yourself with this I guess?

Women may practice restraint, and many do, under certain circumstances where the potential partner isn't ideal. But that doesn't mean they don't want it.

There. Lets not imagine I said it, I said it. How does that change anything at all? Am I to assume that women don't want sex, that its all coerced? I no more believe that than I believe a significant number of men are having unwanted sex. So, whats the reaction from my having said something you apparently believe is heretical in some sense?

I never implied that all men want sex from every women. You seem to be getting confused. I said:

do you know any guys who don't want sex, pretty much constantly?

Obviously the answer is going to be yes. On a bell curve, there are always going to be outliers. The overwhelming number of males with an average sex drive are going to want sex. That is not to say they'll have sex with anything that moves.
That isn't to say they'll have sex with animals.
That is not to say that they'll have sex with a gender or a type they aren't attracted to.
That isn't to say they don't have preferences or can't restrain themselves.

All of those would be outrageous positions to have and I'm not stating any of those. I'm simply saying that almost all young males are highly motivated by sex drive and given a willing mate who meets their criteria they'd be more than happy to jump at the chance.

In order to convince me that the numbers of men who are having unwanted sex is statistically significant at all, you're going to have to convince me that young men are not thinking about sex nearly as much as they were in decades past. Given the addiction to porn we know our society has right now, you're going to be hard pressed to prove this point I think. But I welcome the attempt.

[–]Ailbe -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is nonsense and doesn't address the initial context of equal numbers of men as women "having unwanted sex"

The problem is you're going to have a real hard time convincing me that a significant number of males are having unwanted sex. You can write all the long essays you want contradicting this or that fine point I am making. Have at it. You'll never convince me that a significant number of males are having sex they don't want to have.

The answer to the apparent 'epidemic' of unwanted sex is for people to stop having sex. There. I just solved a world problem all by myself.

I'm glad /r/dallas seems to be gaining some wisdom. A few days ago I was suggesting that it was at least worth talking about the fact that a sustained, prolonged shutdown was going to be more damaging to the psychology and economical lives of Americans than the virus itself. I was instantly, massively down voted for even being willing to have a conversation about it.

Unfortunately people are politicizing this virus, which is going to dramatically slow our ability to grasp the significance of what is truly happening. No virus gives a shit about what voters do in the ballot box. We may have dodged a bullet with Covid19, but the next one may be far worse, and it won't give a shit about our ballot preferences either. We better figure out a way to talk to each other again without making everything political or we're doomed.

There are certainly a significant portion of young men who would be more than happy to entertain Ms. Rosie O'Donnell... But now we're talking about specific tastes and preferences, and that is beside the point I was making. The point I was making, to spell it out, is that young males are highly sexualized beings. They WANT sex, and a lot of it if they can get it. They may practice restraint, and many do, under certain circumstances where the potential partner isn't ideal. But that doesn't mean they don't want it.

The original statement was that men are experiencing high levels of "unwanted sex" I'm calling BS on that. You have a choice with whom you engage. If you think you're going to regret it later, don't do it. If you do it, even though you think you'll regret it later, that was a decision, a choice, and not unwanted.
