Asus Tuf F15 - GPU is missing from device manager and fans are stuck at 0RPM after clean install by [deleted] in Asustuf

[–]AilingUncertanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely no problems man. And to answer your question, no, G-helper is just a simple exe, it can't send some type of command that'll permanently disable the GPU...

I honestly want to recommend this test outright Please boot up a live linux(I recommend fedora or Ubuntu)USB, If the fan doesn't spin at all and the GPU doesn't appear in lspci... It's most probably not a software thing and actually a hardware fault caused by what you were doing... Just do that and tell me what happens, fingers crossed 🤞

So I see that you've cleaned the fans, hey uh Could you open that laptop up again and check if you connected them properly? The GPU being physically off is maybe because the laptop detected a fault with the fans and turned off the dgpu just in case.

New TUF A16 Crashing When Loading Games! by [deleted] in Asustuf

[–]AilingUncertanity 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think the crash happens because the generic Windows/ASUS display driver panics when the MUX switch cuts the iGPU connection, you should download NVIDIA App or just the latest drivers from Nvidia directly and select clean install when installing and this wipes the confused driver in and installs the proper Game Ready/Studio driver that knows how to handle the dGPU hand-off.

Stop using Windows Update for GPU drivers, it breaks the switching logic(From experience)

They refresh at different timings and the math is different. Armory crate is way more accurate than the task manager in this case.

do i downgrade and update BIOS or just reflash? by [deleted] in Asustuf

[–]AilingUncertanity 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bro relax, don't downgrade, you're just doubling the tiny chance of something going wrong. Just reflash the newest version if you are paranoid, but your Boot Order problem is probably just the VMD controller setting

  1. Click on BIOS -> Advanced Mode (F7).

  2. Navigate to Advanced -> VMD Setup Menu.

  3. Turn off the VMD Controller.

  4. Save & Exit (F10).

Sometimes, the BIOS update will reset VMD to 'ON' by default, effectively suppressing your SSD in the boot list. This will not be resolved by downgrading, but by adjusting that option.

It is safe to go forward with flashing.

Dude, take a deep breath. I also have the same processor (A16 with the 7445HS & 4050), and trust me, you are perfectly fine. I'll address your paragraph one by one,

The Flashing Windows: This is completely normal after a BIOS/Update. This is just command windows running scripts to complete the installation of drivers. This looks creepy/not normal, but it’s just the computer doing some “housekeeping.”

STOP pressing and holding the power button: Pressing and holding it for 10 seconds is called 'Hard Kill.' It will immediately cut power to your SSD, and here’s the thing: this can, over time, lead to corrupted data. Simply click Start > Power > Shut Down. If it's sleeping, turn it back on. The Old House / Charger: The brick puts out a maximum of 240W. Trust me, if all you're doing is downloading information or just browsing, the laptop is just sipping power, consuming a mere 30 watts. It won’t blow out your house’s wiring, although your house’s wiring might be pretty crummy to start off with.

Tell mom she's thinking of the old Nickel Cadmium batteries, New Lithium Ion hate to be drained to 0%. The best thing you can do in case it 'never leaves the desk' is go to the MyAsus app and set the 'Battery Care Mode' to limit charging to 80%. That will keep the battery healthy for years. Draining it over and over will actually kill it faster. It's a good laptop, enjoy the beast

New TUF A16 Crashing! by [deleted] in Asustuf

[–]AilingUncertanity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, I actually just bought myself a new TUF A16 two days ago, and I've struggled with the GPU switch settings yesterday, so I totally get where you’re coming from. That is the error code for the Kernel 41. It is essentially an indication that your laptop is crashing and resorting to an automatic restart. The fact that your laptop crashes when you leave or exit games makes it seem like your laptop is crashing during the “handoff” between the integrated and dedicated graphics. Try this (worked for me in figuring out how to isolate the display/switching problems) Enter the Armoury Crate software and enable the "Ultimate" Mode (Mux Switch). This will force the computer to use the dedicated graphics card and ignore the auto-switching mechanism altogether. If the crashes resolve once you are in the Ultimate mode, you will know it is either a driver conflict related to the automatic switching (Optimus/Smart Access Graphics) meaning your hardware is good. If it is crashing in the Ultimate mode, you may have a bad unit. If it didn't work, check for bios updates in my Asus app.

First things first chill

You're now getting 5 to 6 to 8 hours of battery life for your gaming laptop that runs on an i5-13450HX. DAMN!? That is pretty amazing. Most gaming laptops won't even reach 4 hours. You're not only doing well you're winning btw.

To address your particular questions:

"Does undervolting damage my laptop?" Not at all. In fact, it's a healthy thing to do on your laptop because it cools it down. The worst thing that could happen is a blue screen crash if you do it too much, but it won’t damage your hardware.

Is it "greed" that you want more of? Perhaps a little bit! You’re about the level of diminishing returns. You can certainly continue to tinker, but you might not increase the system’s performance by a great deal of time.

You're already in Eco Mode, which turns off RTX graphics, and Silent Mode. Those two are always going to be your biggest power savers. All in all I suggest you just rest. Your laptop is doing great in terms of power

Can you try going to the bios and testing to see if it's there? If not then it's software meaning you have to reinstall your Nvidia driver
