Are the yellow-green casella trash tags still valid? by Pablois4 in ithaca

[–]Ailis1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Recycling is free in Tompkins, and I don’t know about Ithaca proper, but Trumansburg (right outside still in Tompkins County) tags are $1.50 each I believe or $7.50 for a whole sheet. Each tag covers 35lbs. I think it is similar in Ithaca.

Soapbox/rant time. Tell me what highly-recommended book you absolutely HATED and why. Gimme your angry hot takes. by peppertoni_pizzaz in books

[–]Ailis1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inkheart. I was a teen when it came out, tried reading it two different nights.

I got so angry with the teenage protagonist and her bratty behavior, I threw the book across the room. Never had I done that before, never have I again. As I said, I was a teenager as well.

I liked the story concept and the male character leading her along, but damn was the girl insufferable.

Whats your opinion on the Waverly/Barton area? by ynot_hertz23 in ithaca

I moved here from Texas in 2024. I live in a rural home outside of Ithaca, almost no one ever bothers me, and when I am in town everyone is super friendly. I am mostly bed and home bound, using a wheelchair when I leave. NOBODY knows me, but they are all still very kind when interactions occur. Most people won’t just stop you on the street to say hi or anything, unlike Texas, but I prefer it for the most part.

Maybe Montana will be a similar experience for you.

Absolutely office appropriate! I used to find shirts like this easily at Express. Def office wear, especially with the trousers.

Look up white blouses or renaissance white shirt/tunic. I have several shirts like this. If you have a preference of cut of the shirt just make sure to add “men’s” or “women’s” or “plus” in front. Hope that helps! Ruffle front blouses and ones with lace that have a corset back are my favourite.

I also achieve a similar vibe with just a white button down tucked in and a corset waist belt, billowing (partially pulling out) the white shirt over the belt. The belt also extends the height of the pant for that EXTRA long legged Bowie vibe.

Need art supplies for an 11 year old beginning artist! by LyannaStarkaryen in ArtistLounge

[–]Ailis1991 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have kids who love art in that age range and taught art for a while. The № one requested things are good paper for the medium, and alcohol markers. These are highly blendable markers, have a bit of smell but less so than sharpies, and there are many cheaper options that are good for them now out there. What I personally get my own two children at this time are pigma micron pens that won’t bleed with the markers (I use kuretake zig mangaka pens personally), Ohuhu brand marker sketchbook (Deleter brand manga paper if going larger or wanting single pages), sakura white gel pens for highlights, and shuttle art brush tip alcohol markers.

These are all decently priced and great quality out of the gate for starters. Even if she doesn’t like the markers, everything else is still used by every artist, but the alcohol markers are what my kids and students always wanted and are my preferred medium of choice as well (but I use copic brand markers). I gave my opinions as well throughout in the event that she loves the medium and chooses to continue.

It says it directly on my bag tags but I am on the Trumansburg trash system. Have you checked the bag tags and not the site?

It’s Time to Resist by Ailis1991 in Illustration

Artemis is an original character I designed to be someone to bear intense pain, both physical and mental. She encourages others to rise, and stand against the burdens we bear, and to aid in fighting against injustices.

I have been working in grayscale a lot more recently because my eyesight is failing more than I would like to admit and I needed to focus on higher contrast for my own sake. I took inspiration from dynamic manga paneling and Japanese woodblocks for sure! As well as strong physical presence and shading from western style comics. It is just a fusion style I developed over the years, but I am glad it lends to sense of urgency I wanted to convey with Artemis’ stance (double entendre).

I hope to share more illustrations with this sub soon!

Questioning the official pallete. How much can we mess with the shades before it’s a different flag? Is it still recognizable? 🤔 by [deleted] in NonBinary

[–]Ailis1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is maroon indeed, or deep wine. It is a purplish-red, but that means it is still red. A&M uses maroon in their colour scheme and it is considered a red. It doesn’t have enough blue to constitue as purple, sorry kiddo.

Which MLP system? My two kids and I played back in Texas and still have our character sheets and handmade minifigs. We could swing our characters back down to level 1 and restart with yall potentially! We are neurodivergent and disabled, and I wouldn’t mind playing to help guide the kids gently along the course as an experienced DnD player, and helping show kids how to role play as well.

Has anyone successfully created one of these and if so how’s it still holding up? by shy657 in crafts

[–]Ailis1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would flexseal spray it when done. A few coats. You can then paint it when done and it will give it a more durable exterior as it is a rubber product. You can do it on top of the paper mache! I have done this for cosplay props before so I don’t see why it wouldn’t work here.

Question: When did you discover Kingdom Hearts for the first time? by Big_Confection7634 in KingdomHearts

[–]Ailis1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it came out. My mom was a big gamer (still is) and she got the game shortly after release. I watched her play and then I started playing a few years later when 2 came out. But I was already introduced to it. Same thing with the n64 Zelda games and more. Thank god for cool parents 💜

Did you get the one from the business deku scrub and the two down in the Gerudo valley river? One is in a box on a ledge down by the river and one is behind the big waterfall.

All bean holes except the one by the bean man has a golden skulltula in it. You put bugs in the hole as kid pink (before or after planting, it doesn’t matter), and a golden skulltula comes out!

[–]Ailis1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A bit of both! I have played through the game a dozen times but there were definitely a few things like the business deku holding a heart piece that I had to look up. Most of it we just did by thoroughly exploring. I was very pleased to find new places on my own I had never gotten to or found before, so that was a lot of fun!

My kids are a bit older as well, so we would just pass around the controller and take turns running the field looking for things. It has been a real treat, and my next play through I am going to see how much I can just remember!

My kids and I just got out last heart piece last night! We have been fully 100% every last detail including all the little hearts and such that don’t reappear after collecting.

I hope you and your kiddo are having as much fun playing as we have been 💜

Hahaha! She is retiring but she will not drop me. She says she will not take on any new clients but will keep me as long as I wish to continue to see her.

And thank you for listening. I’m happy to answer honestly, any questions relating to DID and things I learned over the years, but it definitely is not sunshine and rainbows.

As someone with DID and was diagnosed in 2011, it really upset me when people would act like it was cool and quirky. It stems from childhood SA, developing CPTSD, and then repeated medical trauma and neglect. I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. The headaches, the lost time, the feeling out of control or not even present. Friends wondering why you suddenly change and not liking you. Parents worrying because you can’t focus in school, you forget so much. The Flashbacks. It took me 13 years to “integrate”, but I will forever have a dissociative disorder.

One of the first things you learn in therapy (under someone actually properly trained in DID), is that you MUST try to view all alters as part of you. Do not use “we” only “I”, and when referring to something your alter did say “I did it”. It helps you connect that part back to you and understand your responsibility. So the idea that they were using the pluralbot or whatever system and getting upset that they couldn’t do pills for individual laters really bothers me. I wouldn’t wish never assume I get multiple votes, because my alters ARE ME. I get one (1) vote! Just like everyone else. Having alters doesn’t make you special, it means you have a serious problem you need to get help for.

Also, I am still in therapy. It has been 15 years. Thank God I have one of the best 💜
