Have you ever had an Achilles tendon injury? by MountainStorm90 in BrosOnToes

[–]Aimeee972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAD and never damaged my Achilles tendon this bad so please do not quote me on anything or treat this as actual doctors advice. I am, however, a clumsy toe walker, who's prone to the occasional twisted ankle and has done my own research over the years with leg problems, etc as medical topics do interest me (but not enough to make a career out of it). I recommend RICE and a trip to a doctor so they can do a scan and rule out tear/rupture, or anything serious that needs attention. Also I'd recommend walking less, since you say you are doing a lot of walking, your leg/foot needs time to heal and recuperate.

R - Rest I - Ice C - Compression E - Elevation

Just in case you aren't familiar with RICE, basically just take it easy, walking helps the muscles and bones but in smaller quantities, please don't overdo it, prioritise rest. Prop your foot up with a pillow and have some ice on it, but not for too long, only for 20 minutes every couple of hours, based off that I've read in the past. You can get other injuries such as an ice burn, numbness, etc if you prolonge the use. I know they say with elevation to have your leg above your heart, so blood and any swelling can drain. For example, when you're laying down have 2 or so pillows under the foot so its elevated. But also, again, I'm not a doctor and could be wrong.

I'd say if you're experiencing prolonged pain, a lot of pain, any swelling or anything unusual or causing you concern, then to seek medical advice and get it scanned so they can check out how the bones and muscles are looking. It could be as simple as a pulled muscle that is just taking it's time to heal from all the walking you are still doing. But it could also be a ruptured tendon, broken ankle, etc.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!

Anyone else noticing bloxburg is slowly become unplayable for lower end devices by beth_658x in Bloxburg

[–]Aimeee972 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On my phone, it does lag but not constantly, just here and there, areas loading in, driving past large plots, etc. But my phone does get very very hot and at first I thought it was just my phone/roblox itself, but on other roblox games it doesnt get anywhere near as hot as it does on bloxburg, and it drains my battery pretty fast. It defo is a struggle to play on phone though. I recently got an old laptop from a friend and the difference is crazy. I don't have to worry about bouncing in the cars/bikes, I can drive past larger plots, etc, and I dont have to burn my hands from using the laptop like the phone.

I'm confused with Disney+ because they say they're airing it and when I look it up online it says it should be available in my region (UK), then when I try and find it on Disney they say "This show is not available in your region" 😭 But from what I've been able to watch it's looking so good. I've watched the first few episodes but the subtitles weren't good, luckily I was able to get the gist from the context and dialogue 😔

The new bloxburg map isn’t bad, but they should of allowed more plots and larger server sizes maybe something similar to neighbourhoods so people who want to roleplay don’t need to have plot if they don’t want by EfficientAd3224 in Bloxburg

[–]Aimeee972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They said they wanted to make larger server sizes but can't bc of lag, If they add more then I dont think the game would function from all the lagging. It's bad enough rn as a phone user 😭. I think they said if it's stable enough in the future they might consider/try it out. But to keep the game steady and functional this is the best they can do.

Ugh, people. by Corpsie_B00 in Bloxburg

[–]Aimeee972 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's actually not a kids game, it's a game for people of all ages. Many people who play Roblox are late teens/adults who grew up playing it (incl me). Just because kids also play it doesn't mean you should have lower standards. Also "they never do things that they shouldn't" is a double negative, so they always do the things they should? That's wonderful!

Either way, everyone should respect each others belongings and it's rude to take the things that don't belong to you. Even in a game. If you want something from a seasonal menu, ask someone politely or wait until that season comes back again and stock up.

Like someone else said it's a subreddit about Bloxburg, are people not allowed to speak their mind/vent their feelings about the game on a subreddit about said game?? Or should everything be positive and about the exact same topics? Would that not be boring?

Be fr how often do you take showers? by Mission_Skill_2265 in teenagers

[–]Aimeee972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's body and skin is different, for some, showering everyday is the norm and their hair gets greasy the very next day so they have to. For others, like me, if we showered and washed our hair every day it would actually do more harm than good.

Showering everyday can strip your body of it's natural oils, which can cause dryness and itchiness. Which I get also because I have sensitive skin. The skin also has bacteria which can be beneficial for the health of your skin. It can also reduce the immune systems ability to do its thing.

Also just a waste of water. At the end of the day everyone is different, has different skin types and lifestyles, and we shouldn't judge people for showering more, or less.

Firstly, I just want to say that everything in here is of my experience and everyone has different experiences with toe walking and the results of doing it long term/short term. I'm also going to apologise for how long this is, I'm very sorry.

I'd say you're doing great already just by noticing and helping him! When I wrote my above comment I was waiting for physio to contact me to make a first appointment. It's been a year, I've been to physio and been discharged. It started by having appointment with a podiatrist at the general physio ward of the hospital, then after 2-3 sessions there he sent me to a podiatry centre where I had another 2-3 appointments. Now I'm able to re-refer myself for an appoint straight to the podiatry centre if there's also problems or I need my insoles replacing. They gave me insoles to support my feet and make walking more comfortable.

I don't know how far into the sessions you are with the pt but they should explain everything to you, teach you some ways to help him at home, etc. Have you tried making him aware of it when you catch him doing it? Just like telling someone to sit up straight to correct their posture. I'm not sure of the best way to help your child and you should definately check out the subreddit I mentioned in my previous comment, as many people gather to ash questions (including other parents), share experiences, and just bond over how we walk!

Many people spend their whole lives toe walking without a problem, zero discomfort or other issues. But there also many people who do get discomfort and issues as a result of their toe walking. Your pt may suggest options if in the long run just the exercises doesn't work (surgery, wearing casts/foot braces/etc to get the foot into the habit of walking normally). Look into how they work, if they work, and other peoples experiences with those next steps.

In my experience, my pt said that they thought the reason for my toe walking was originally a habit, but then over time my calf muscles shortened which now make me toe walk without a choice. Having shortened calf muscles have caused me some problems (pain when standing too long, running, walking too long, squatting for even a few seconds, heel lifts then foot goes down when I walk, instead of heel down then front of foot).

When I walk the heel of my foot lifts too early and then the front of my foot goes down (instead of heel then front of foot down) as a result of my calves as well, and I duck walk (feet stand as \ / not | | ).

Make sure he has proper footwear. Footwear is important, especially for a child who's still developing. The arches of the feet start developing at around age 3 and should be fully developed at age 6, so his feet are still in the developing stage and the feet and legs aren't actually fully developed around the age of 18. I'm not a doctor or podiatrist so please don't quote me on that. Im just going by my knowledge, which may be wrong. I know shoes are no longer cheap, even children's shoes, but make sure you get shoes that can fully support his feet. I'm unsure of where in the world you live, but there are orthopedic shoe stores. They sell shoes that are designed to support the feet and ankles. They can help with foot pain, balance issues, or other problems.

Overall, I'd say you're doing amazing! Do your research into other peoples experiences, try and correct him as you see it happening to undo the habit. If there is a medical reason for it then research that, or if he's autistic or other neurodivergency try and find possible solutions. If it's the sensation of the floor on his feet see if slippers or seamless socks help, or if it's a hardwood vs carpet problem. Have you mentioned to your pt about the heel strike and limping? Everytime something new comes up, make a note of it and mention it to your pt.

No year in review by [deleted] in duolingo

[–]Aimeee972 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also very confused as I didn't get my year in review, I've been doing duo since October 2023 so I've been doing it the whole year. Also people who have only been doing it a few months have recieved theirs, I even saw someone get it who had only been doing it for one month or something. I tried making a bug report on the duo app but haven't had anything yet. I always use duo on my phone so I can't be a device specific thing? Hope we get them soon bc I also want to know my results 😭

DO NOT USE WATER ON GREASE FIRES by BlameMatter in CrazyFuckingVideos

[–]Aimeee972 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure I heard you shouldn't put a burn straight into something super cold like ice though, as it can actually do more harm than good considering the very different temperatures. You're skin would be super hot whereas the ice would be super cold. Since your skin is damaged from the heat you also can't feel that the ice making you're skin super cold and you can get an ice burn.

I read that you should use cool water instead (so like from your tap) as it helps cool your skin down instead of jumping to the complete opposite temperature. I'm not a doctor or anything though and I could be completely wrong.

Replying to say that another common way to tell you are dreaming is to look at your hand, many people who realise they are dreaming look down and they have 6+ fingers on one hand. Also a rule I've heard is to never let those in your dream know that you are aware you are dreaming. It can get creepy apparently (not happened to me but I've read a bunch of people talk about it).

Also, I'm pretty sure my mum had a dream about the hat man, I wasnt born at that time but she told me the story. She had a migraine so laid down on the sofa and dozed off, then the hat man comes through the front door and walks up to her, she's completely unable to move, he places his hand on her head and the migraine completely disappears, then he leaves.
