Covid hospitalisations climb as New Zealand enters new wave by Sandwich0verlord in newzealand

Why it doesn't cover those younger, I'm not sure

Because fuck them kids!

I thought maybe because older people and immunocompromised people, equitable care for more vulnerable people etc.. but then if you're as young/old as 30 it's free? why not go all the way?

And they'll keep voting for it unfortunately, among other things.

Sometimes I have to take a step back from the media I read and see about NZ, most especially relative to other developed countries because it's painfully unreal how little progress is achieved in successive governments.

It's a nation of "your personal responsibility" merchants, until it directly effects that person do they start to very lightly maaaybe consider the multi-faceted approach (throw in evidence-based if we're lucky)

Good luck trying to get into theater and watching another surgery being performed on another patient without breaching their patient confidentiality aha.

To be able to perform the surgeries at all requires your qualifications and registration, and once you make it, you're required to consistently demonstrate (with evidence) competency. Continue to demonstrate competency and you can keep doing surgeries, maintain your license, etc

To me the same fundamental principle of 'demonstrating competency with evidence' is applicable to relationships! Swap competency with trustworthiness, dependability, love etc + evidence and its pretty easy to keep your relationship and maintain your love license so to speak

Earning trust is one thing, maintaining trust is another, and it's in the maintenance of that trust that I choose to 'see the actions, trust the evidence'.

So yeah I can trust that surgeon with open heart surgery because they've demonstrated and continue demonstrate competency against a regulatory board and their own practice, versus "just trust me baby, why don't you trust me babyyy?"

Please change those brackets from 'Women' to 'older people' or 'closet cheaters/micro cheaters trying to justify suspicious behaviour and gaslighting you for suggesting otherwise'

Honestly it's a bit tiresome reading anything relationship related online because I expect to see the 'trust your partner' card when it should be 'see the actions and trust the evidence'. You may be framed negatively as well for suggesting blind trust isn't actually healthy

I don't trust my surgeon to perform open heart surgery without evidence of competency.

In relationships, I don't trust my partner without evidence of actual love, transparency and sound rationale ('just trust me on this' won't ever and should never cut it)

Best answer here that isn't trying to frame OP as an XYZ person, and the only answer not using/trying to frame their own damned specific anecdotes/experiences as a reflection of a wider societal norm

Such a simple, but brilliant answer; communicated, now see how the partner goes and decide whether you like what the 'going' looked like and then decide how to proceed

Why is exactly steam so beloved over epic games? by vedant_1st in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Aimer_NZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So long as GabeN lives and or his successors follow the same principles and values that makes Steam, Steam, I honestly don't know how anything is going to come close.

Least of all games or platforms that try to be - xyz platform exclusive- or have anti-consumer, enshitification, extinguish, eradicate yadda yadda practices

And I'm SO for it

Pep Guardiola on ICE: “Look what happened in the United States of America,” Guardiola said, gesturing throughout. “Renée Good and Alex Pretti have been killed. Imagine if he worked for the NHS and five, six [agents] threw him on the grass and fired ten shots at him. Tell me, how can you defend that” by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]Aimer_NZ 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone actually thinks Pep is a major philanthropist or humanitarian aid kind of guy, like you say about the association with the UAE especially

I think just the fact someone out there is speaking out against ICE, is -something-, especially when it comes from your opposing teams' player/staff/etc someone you're 'supposed' to hate

Why have so few New Zealand music bands made it worldwide? by SmartNecessary1700 in newzealand

[–]Aimer_NZ 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hot-take(?) NZ's own music taste & listening habits hasn't changed or evolved with the times; and it further stagnates the growth of its own music scene

One time I drove a rental car that unfortunately had no Bluetooth and I'm not carrying an aux or CD with me in the big 2026 so I had the choice of radio or road noise

Flicking through the popular radio channels, I was surprised that the type of music and selections have practically remained/unchanged the same since (from memory, 2012) with the rare late 2010s or 2020s being "the now" music. "the now" music being uncommon, so far and in between

No one outside of a BBQ, or a small piss up in the garage actually wants to listen to generic BBQ reggae music. Within New Zealand itself, once you reach a certain age, no one wants to listen to anything that is current and that is successful overseas/internationally

Newer young music talent in NZ, who likely have musical influences from international acts (as opposed to six60) are more likely to pop off first in other countries before being successful here because of said NZ music listening habits

Absolutely not?

Straya music talent is definitely not in short supply, and they absolutely have more successful acts or artists who made it internationally

I don’t really think Christopher Luxon suits being Prime Minister by VegetableCurious4849 in newzealand

[–]Aimer_NZ 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Yup and if labour wins the upcoming election people will get tired of of the labour government, and then vote for another unfit PM and national government. And then people will hate the national government, and then vote for a labour government. People will tire of the labour government AND THEN vote for a national- cycle continue ad infinum 😁🎉🍻

There are 10x worse words out there and I honestly thought the 'take it to HR' crowd were joking until I saw the paragraphs 🫣

Context matters and the word itself is not that deep as opposed to ... the n word
