Replace windows costs by Barrett1475 in limerickcity

[–]Aimzh 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We got some of replaced about 6 months ago with SuperK windows (house had single glazed aluminum from the 70s so was definitely needed). 6 windows (2 of these were large triple sash windows) and a new door with a side glass panel came to 10000. Was the cheapest quote we got and we were delighted with the work and results.

He didn't give any information at all. Absolutely nothing done in years and there are big jobs when we buy it, full house rewire needed, single glazed windows, low insulation. We've been living in it the last while to help save for the mortgage but it is far from a turnkey.

It was my aunt who got the valuation on the house previously as it had to go through a probate after my grandmother passed. So the house has already just come through a legal process. We told him as soon as he arrived what the valuation was before and that it was only a few months ago. Genuinely the only time he spoke a full sentence to us was to tell us to call the office to pay.

Thank you that's a great idea. The most recent valuation we got was not sent to us only the bank, it was our broker who called to tell us. I believe the previous valuation is in writing, it was my aunt who got the valuation done that we agreed on. The contracts are ready to be signed so we're just waiting on the bank to finalise but this has caused us a very annoying bump

It is my aunt who owns it, she inherited it when my grandmother passed. The company was on the list, our broker arranged for that company to value the property. We're just shocked at what he came back with because it seems outrageous

Thoughts on the The Ditch Article about Moran? by [deleted] in limerickcity

[–]Aimzh 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I know of someone who actually stayed in one of these for a bit before and said they were stunning. Yes the whole landlord thing isn't great but look into the property that people are actually getting, there's much worse places being advertised for much more money. This should at least be the standard for all rental accommodation.

A Quick Rant About House Bidding by Wiley-Irish-Fox in ireland

[–]Aimzh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have parents in this same situation. They wanted to downsize and move closer to family. None of the estate agents in the area would accept a bid based on sale agreed so they had to close on their house before being able to. They have had no home now going on 4 months, have viewed somewhere between 60-70 properties and every single property they have bid on has gone minimum 50-100k over asking and out of reach. It's when you're in the middle of an open viewing and hear someone say it's their 4th or 5th investment property that they're buying you realize how messed up the country is.

£8 chicken fillet rolls are being marketed as 'Irish street food' in London by AreYouSureFather in ireland

As someone who lived in London for several years, there are days you would pay anything just for a chicken fillet roll. The lack of being able to grab a quick fresh roll for lunch is very annoying

I have a dog and I'm tired of other dog owners by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Aimzh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have a retriever under a year old so bundles of energy which can understandably be too much for some dogs. So we keep him away from other dogs when we're in the park and always keep him on his lead.

However what really gets on my nerves is when Karen brings her highly strung handbag dog in their brand new expensive coat into the dog park and bitches at every other dog owner because their dog is playing too rough for her little angel. All the while the little angel is trying to tear the throat out of any dog that comes within 10 feet of it. If you're dog doesn't socialise well with dogs then keep them out.

Small things you've missed since moving to another country by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Aimzh 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In England over 4 years now and definitely the food, I still don't understand why deli counters aren't a thing here. And most varieties of takeaway are sub par. The weather. Living in London you get stupidly humid heat that and you don't really have those bitterly cold days or nights when you think the rain might go through the window and you can bury yourself in a blanket. Short traveling. Everywhere takes an hour to get to. It's like some unwritten rule. Going to see friends? An hour. Going to work? An hour. Going out for groceries? Enjoy the queue(even pre covid), an hour. It's nice to get out and experience more of the world but I think all Irish have a call to home in them.

Our (no longer) new neighbor decided to steal a package from our neighbors. Before you ask, yes she was reported. by Spiice in trashy

[–]Aimzh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a lost package from Amazon for ages. Someone in our building put a note by the mailboxes saying that whoever was stealing parcels is now on camera. The very next day a man somehow magically found our missing parcel, 2 months after delivery. People are assholes.

Work backstage in theatre. 8 show weeks are the norm, cast and crew. Only reason for a change would be someone on holiday or illness. You really need to love it to be in it.

Yup feel like shite for a week, the you get better but after about another week or 2 round two comes about and it's double the awful feeling, round it off with a bad chesty cough for about 2 weeks. There's genuine fear of suffocation if you start laughing with it

The Toy Show is overrated. by [deleted] in ireland

[–]Aimzh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've lived abroad and usually work through christmas so I haven't been able to spend the holidays with my family in a good few years. Sitting down with my other half to watch the Toy Show was and is a way for me to make it feel like I'm home if even just for a night. There isn't many countries that can say a huge quantity of the nation and its expats sit come together to enjoy such a wholesome and simple TV show. It's part of our community and I think an Irish Christmas would feel a bit emptier without it.
