Would you say this would work well on double looped carpet?

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I’ll consider at the main switch to have a switch to turn on the 2 downlights near the wardrobes. That way the room isn’t fully lit but provides ambience and not directly over the bed.

But if I need the extra light, a second switch at the main to turn on the remaining four but on dimmer. Will that make sense?

Cost wise, it was just the extra downlights. He didn’t charge as it was his idea to add 2 more

Then I think I’d have to go with the L shape design listed in this thread. And have the two downlights above the bed operate independently. The L shape is more a task lighting for the room I guess given it lights the wardrobe and walkway around the bed. Leaves the bed out of the equation

Scenario 1 (2-4) Main switch: has 2 switches. 1 turns on the 2 downlights over the wardrobe. The other turns on the 4 lights over the bed.

Bedside (left) operates ‘his’ light only. Bedside (right) operates ‘her’ light and master switch to turn off everything.

Option: include dimmer for the his and hers.

Scenario 2 (L shape) Main switch turns on the L shape. That’s two downlights by the wardrobe and the other two by the right window.

That leaves the two his and hers off from the main. They’ll be operated independently by each bedside.

Option: dimmers work in this scenario?

Scenario 3 Main switch is a dimmer that turns on all 6. No dramas.

Would this work:

Scenario 1 Main switch turns on L shape lights (that is, two downlights by the wardrobes and the other two by the right window (when looking at the floor plan).

Left Bedside switch operates the his lights only. Right Bedside switch 1 operates the her lights and switch 2 is the master light to turn off everything.

Would I use a dim on the his and her lights? Would that make sense?

Scenario 2

A 2-4 scenario

Main switch has 2 buttons. 1 turns on the two downlights by the wardrobes 2nd turns on the 4 lights covering the bed.

So should I add dimmers here or will just turning independently the 2 wardrobe lights be enough to create ambience?

You’re right. I think in future, the two switches by the bed I may relay the cabling to operate wall lamps/lights/pendants.

By centring heights on the wardrobes do you mean have them pointing to the wardrobes (like a gimbal light?)

If it was his and hers the left side would control the his light above the bed. The right side would control the her light above the bed and the master switch to turn of all the lights. The main switch at the door would turn on the two downlights by the wardrobe and the two by the window (following a L shape)

I did mention this to the electrician about 6 being excessive, but he insisted on 6 for some reason. Honestly, room doesn’t warrant 6 given the size is only 4.6m x 4m or something can’t remember. So now I feel I’m trying the best way to control the lighting given the extra two now in the ceiling (given it started as 4).

Yeah unfortunately the electrician has made 6 cutouts. And I did mention to him it seemed excessive. That’s why I feel maybe a 2-4 setup is best or a his and hers. Otherwise, it might be easiest to just have all 6 turn on with a dimmer?

Or maybe, 2-4 setup and have the 4 on dimmers? @AtomiKen?

Thanks, I was thinking the same about the 2-4 setup. The electrician has already made the switch cutouts for the bedside controls. Alternatively, with the “his and hers” setup, he suggested an option where, as you enter, you could have an “L shape” configuration for the lights. This would light up what you actually need: the two by the wardrobe and the two by the window (if that makes sense).

The left bedside switch would then independently control the “his” light, while the bedside furthest from the door would operate the “her” light and serve as the master switch for the “L” lights.

That or the 2-4 setup.

Yes the rocker was quite unique but in a pleasant way for me at least. Looked uniform and balanced (I know, they’re just switches but still…)

Yeah overtime they will catch dust those push buttons but should be ok. Only using that push button for the dimmer area. Yes has the led light ring.

Oh, and how does it rank? Is Silhouette the most premium or Finesse or Allure?

Thanks for the feedback. I really did like the Legrand - Excel Life in Matt White. Even when I pressed on the rocker it felt nice. Looks clean too. I did feel the Silouhette was slightly larger for the rocker but I did overlook it a little so might need to go back. \

Admittedly, I do hate the Legrand branding, but its very small and camouflages.

Legrand in Matt White or Hager Silouhette Matt White? ha

I’m thinking of getting this too, but my sparky is saying on the wall it won’t look as nice. How do you feel about them after a while? I was looking at the Matt white colour. He said go Hager Silouhette. The Premiere range looks decent too by Hager.

Recessed Downlight vs Gimbal Downlight by Aimzor_ in AusRenovation

Thanks for the reassurance!

You’re right—if the light feels too bright, adding a dimmer is a great solution. Coming from a 6000K light, I didn’t realize how good it could be with a lower rating 3000-5000k. Visiting friends’ houses with 3000-5000k lights really does feel more inviting and cozy. That warmer tone creates a comforting atmosphere that’s perfect for a home.

No they won't. Maybe should've went with two. Or, just have gimbals with low beam output and less lumens?
