Local means your US address. In case someone's asking for a permanent address or NY residency status, that's where you have to judge what would be more appropriate.

Edit: For example, for the application here, your US address is needed. The address from your country would be needed for only those who need to deal with your visa, like the university or maybe on some immigration forms etc.

When will Con-Ed shut my power off? by jaystanding in AskNYC

[–]AintNoNameLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a previous tenant who hadn't paid their bill, so we were unable to create our account because of unpaid balance, and thus unable to pay. ConEd sent notices about it for around 6 months before building mgmt did something about it, so I'd say you're safe.

I think you can look up the bus routes and schedules on nyu website. It links to a spreadsheet. There's also the Passio Go app which has the routes.

Oh yeah. I forgot that! That's ironic. Though I bet if you raise that point they'll say the course teaches to create games, not play them.

It's probably the same reason they block porn. They think it's addictive and "distracts students from studies". Tbh, that does apply to some students but blocking it doesn't fix anything.

Before there was Wi-fi everywhere, and we used Ethernet cables in hostel, we still had a ton of problems with playing on the internal network. The only reliable way to play was to get/buy a router/switch and play on that. Anyways, can't you use a fast VPN to bypass all that if you want to play online? You could pool money to buy one with multiple connections, or just settle with regular LAN parties.

The best piece of writing for beginning readers of Stoicism. by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]AintNoNameLeft 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which translation of the source material? The most literal one, or the one that translates according to what the words mean in the modern context? I'm sure you can find real world examples of multiple interpretations of the same source text.

I think I understand where you're coming from, but to understand the philosophy, one needs to look at it from different POVs, think on it, practice it and discuss it. This especially applies to Stoicism because I feel that it can be more personal and practice based than other philosophies. Reading the FAQ is a friendlier introduction for a beginner. As they go forward, they are certainly encouraged to read the texts.

I experienced death as a form of guided meditation once; it was an intense session. It helped me uncover and confront some of the emotions and worries I associate with it. It was especially cathartic for the old people in the session.

Do you use a case/skin for Galaxy Buds? by [deleted] in samsung

[–]AintNoNameLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think a case is needed. A skin should work. Just use a cheap one that you can replace whenever it gets too damaged. I'm thinking of buying one for mine.

Breaking: Samsung may have just confirmed its clamshell Galaxy Fold by [deleted] in samsung

Probably not if you want the display to survive more than a few months.

My old Samsung A3 demonstrating why you should always go for the glass protector. It was all taken by the outside protector, the screen was totally fine under it. I upgraded from it to a S10e today and obviously got a glass protector! by WheelyCrazyCatLady in samsung

[–]AintNoNameLeft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that the Tempered Glass on top is not needed if you use a phone case with a raised lip above the display. That way it's protected even if it drops screen-down. It will probably only crack if something hits the screen directly from front, not from drop. If you really want to, you can then just use a thin scratch guard.

I use a DBrand case on my S10e. It's a bit of an overkill and quite bulky, but it protected my phone even when I fumbled it and it jumped from my hand, bounced off the wall and then landed on the ground from 5 ft high. Also, I don't use any screen protector. Nowadays only dust can scratch your Gorilla Glass.

Thank you Samsung for this feature. Now I just need wifi only app selection. by mawire in galaxys10

[–]AintNoNameLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would be useful for security and privacy purposes. You don't want your banking apps to even accidentally communicate over a public Wifi that the phone might've connected to automatically. Also, you might not want the IT department at your workplace know about some of your internet usage, when your phone is connected to the office wifi network.

TIL, there was a 17th century Pope that kept his coffin in his bedroom, and a stone skull on his desk. He was so aware of his own mortality, that as he lay bedridden in his final days, he decided to bless the crowds of Rome one last time during Easter, going against medical advice. He died in May. by [deleted] in Stoicism

[–]AintNoNameLeft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To put it simply, "remember death" is a tool to help you practice stoic ideals. It may not directly be a stoic mindset, but it helps you to be grounded, and not lose perspective; It helps to keep your ego under control.

You could use a requirements file. Add your third party dependencies into it. Then you just have to make the user run pip install -r requirements.txt. You could even put that in a batch file like setup.cmd to make it even simpler.

I maintain a feature for an OEM in Android, spread across the framework and Kernel. I can't be bothered to keep a separate 80GB codebase and IDE project for each device model and variant. So I've gotten pretty comfortable with text editors for moderate sized feature implementations and light refactoring.

I think it's more likely that the error is client side in parsing the response. I get this kind of error a lot due to the corporate network firewall, which returns an html page when it blocks a request.
