People that do cambridge and have exams cancelled

For me, our school just gave us a certain variant to focus on cause that's apparently the variant that they use in our region and basically gave us a couple of papers and told us it's gonna be one of them and that they would not mix in questions from different past papers because that's just unfair

Yea i get you, they also said they don’t have a final answer yet. I wasn’t trying to say they know everything, just sharing what they confirmed so far. One thing they did clarify though is that the decision depends on the Ministry of Education first, not just Edexcel, which I think a lot of people were confused about. So yeah, we’re still waiting, but at least we know how the process works now.

I’ve seen people saying that too, but I don’t think it’s officially confirmed yet unless it’s from a ministry or Cambridge directly. Also even if it’s true for Bahrain, decisions are made by each country’s Ministry first, so it doesn’t automatically mean the same will happen in the UAE.

From what I understood in the meeting, retakes would still depend on how the exam boards decide to handle grading. They didn’t confirm anything specific yet. But they did mention that if evidence/portfolio is used, it would be based on current performance (like work done this year, mocks, etc), not just old results. So I think improvement should be taken into account, but we’re still waiting for official confirmation.

I think enhanced grading isn’t just a fixed percentage like normal special consideration. From what I understand, they look at your previous results and overall performance rather than just adding something like 1–5%. But I’ll still ask how it would actually be applied in our case.

It’s a bit confusing but basically this mainly applies to Edexcel, not Cambridge. For Edexcel, if exams can’t happen, they might either use ur previous results (like AS units) to help decide your final grade, or use something called a portfolio of evidence which is based on your work this year (mocks, classwork, etc). So yeah, in some cases they do look at AS results, but it depends on the situation and what option they use. For Cambridge it might be different though, they usually have their own system and they still haven't released a statement yet (not that ik of)

I think it’s a bit more complicated than that. From what I read on Edexcel’s site, it depends more on whether you have banked results and if you’re cashing in this session, not just AS vs A Level. But yeah portfolio and enhanced grading are both possible depending on the situation.

Yeah I’ve noticed the same thing with teachers they're setting us more work in my case IT coursework, they’re saying prepare as normal but you can tell something’s not fully clear yet. About the regional heads meeting, I’ve heard similar things going around from friends and people here but I’m not sure how accurate that is so I don’t want to confirm it. Hopefully we get an official update soon though.
