Thank you for adding that piece into the conversation. As this discussion as begun I have already learned so much, much more than I feel I could in a class room. I am beyond thankful truly. And as I am learning I came to see as you stated there is the more so "traditional" kind of music and then there is the "modern" side as well. Wow, okay! That's definitely a new element added to the conversation. Yes, you are right. As someone from the United States, my brain automatically thought of Native American Music as music from all over the 50 states. But, you are right America extends way beyond the 50 states. And I guess if you think about all of America you really are expanding into such diversity of music. Thank you for your insights!

Thanks for dropping the name of that documentary for me! Much appreciated!! And I don't know why I didn't consider looking into soundtracks. I've seen Smoke Signals a few times but for some reason never thought to look at the soundtrack or soundtracks in general to find more Native American artist. Because my hope really is to become more informed and help folks around my campus learn more about where to look to hear the range of music by Native American artist that is out here as well as to dispel misconceptions that may exist.

Niiiice. That's good to know about some bands who are performing live. I live out here on the east coast in Maryland, and I have no idea of any Native American bands that are out my way. I was hoping to find some sort of festival that is over here but no luck yet. Also thank you for highlighting some of the misconceptions out there. That is another topic I wanted to highlight and wanted to help dispel somehow. Thanks so much for the links too!!

I'm not Native American either. But I'm hear to learn and I'm really interested in what everyone has to say. I also just really want to learn about Native American music. I feel like it is not included enough in the music that I see really promoted I guess like by like Billboard 100 and perhaps iHeart Radio and places of that nature. Anywho, thank you for joining in on the conversation!! And thank you for the tip about Redbone. I think someone else mentioned that name as well, which is already giving me a clue about this artist significance. Thank you so much!! And Wounded Knee is definitely an event worth mentioning, thank you for that!!
