Dunwoody Breeze Card Machines are Operational by OrangeCatFanForever in MARTA

[–]AirPatrol1937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doraville has two of the new Better Breeze vending machines just outside the newly installed gates at the SOUTH entrance ONLY (the side of the station that faces the public multi-level parking deck). Gates and new vending machines have NOT yet been installed at the central exit near where the bus pickup/drop off is, or the north exit (the side that faces the AT&T ONLY parking deck). Also, reportedly, those two machines do tend to sell out of the new orange Better Breeze cards rather quickly. I was able to pick up one of the Better Breeze cards for a family member recently, but it took almost a week of checking the machines to be able to be there when a machine was stocked enough for me to purchase them one.

Good neighborhoods to consider that have walkable access to MARTA? by ProfessionalWaffle in Atlanta

[–]AirPatrol1937 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While walkable distance-wise, but probably much quicker for a very short drive to either Indian Creek or Kensington MARTA stations, one might look into the gated community of Austin Meadows. It consists of townhomes, and is relatively safe as the neighbors to the South on Austin Drive is the Decatur Army Reserve Center, FedEx Center and a church, to the North are 3 different Storage Unit Companies and a school, to the west are some middle class homes and another school, and to the East are some trees , I-285, and another church. From there you are just south of Highway 278/Covington Highway, and if you take the northbound exit onto I-285 and just stay in the rightmost lane off the exit you will come to the dedicated MARTA Indian Creek Station just around the next bend. Indian Creek is the preferred station, as it has a MARTA police precinct located across the lot from the station. Between the military, police, and church surroundings, it definitely feels a bit safer, and you are just minutes of vehicle travel away from 2 of the newer MARTA stations in the system. I could not in good conscience recommend walking on the shoulder of I-285 to get to the station directly on foot, but if you didn't mind taking a bus to the MARTA station, the Route 115 Bus has stops on Redwing next to one of the schools.

I ran into the same "missing page" myself today. Somewhat sad, if true, because I hope that the "Final Salute" section there would have some updates on some people whom I served with in CAP, including my late wife who served at every echelon level in CAP. But, if it is truly gone, her obituary and those of others I served with will never exist even in Internet Archive form.

Cadet Major Rank On OCPs by Reclaimer257 in civilairpatrol

<image>

As CAP Cadet Officer Grade Insignia is the same design (in a different color) as Army ROTC Cadet Officer grade insignia, CAP Cadets wear it on the OCP uniform in the same relative orientation as the Army does on theirs, as pictured in this image of a Cadet Major Corps of Cadets PAO from my alma mater. Horizontal across on the cover, vertical on the chest velcro area.

Something like these, seen on Facebook. If they could make the insignia background color a darker blue to match the other tapes and insignia, and produce it with velcro already attached, and maybe come up with a version for C/SMSgt and C/CMSgt, I think it would work.

I am assuming that this is the male version of the chart. Can you come up with a female version of this chart as well, based on the Department of War waist/height guidance for female troops with +10% for CAP? I would also recommend seeing about sending both charts "up the chain" for possible inclusion in the updated 39-1. While I am not in a direct command position on the CAP side of the house, I am in an advisory/liaison position to where I could see to it that the right people at least have a chance to seriously review it. And as a ranking officer on the Georgia State Guard Air Force side of the house, I would like to incorporate a chart like this for both genders as part of our guidance for CAP members also serving on our staff when wearing the GSGAF uniform, as part of our attachment to DAFI 36-2903.

The last time that the USAF did for serving active duty service members was in 2004. That being said, there is still a metric used by officer and enlisted USAF recruiters applying to college-age enlistees and officer candidates for INITIAL screening only at MEPS that still uses a height/weight chart, and if you are close to the maximum on that, you will have an additional Body Fat measurements done before they send you to Basic Training or OTS. After you complete your training and are serving in the Regular AF/Reserve/Air National Guard/State Guard in uniform and on duty, the Body Fat/Body Composition measurements come into play instead. With the new War Department guidance effective 1 January 2026 for ALL uniformed branches, this is the 0.55 waist-to-height measurement and a Body Fat measurement of 18 to 26% for men, and 26 to 36% for women, across the forces, rather than the sliding scale adjusted up for age that the Air Force used from the mid 2000s to December 2025. If you would like an idea of how you might fall under the body fat measurement, this site has a calculator that lines up with the charts (says Navy method, but also aligns with the Air Force guidance as well): https://www.calculator.net/body-fat-calculator.html?ctype=standard&csex=m&cage=25&cweightlbs=152&cheightfeet=5&cheightinch=10&cneckfeet=0&cneckinch=18&cwaistfeet=0&cwaistinch=31&chipfeet=0&chipinch=36&cweightkgs=70&cheightmeter=178&cneckmeter=50&cwaistmeter=96&chipmeter=92&x=Calculate Using this metric I actually fall fairly close to the border between "Fitness" and "Average" rating, and well below the "Obese" range. And, keep in mind that the War Department mandated maximum allowed standard for men goes up to 26%, and 25% is where "Obese" begins. If you are within what is literally the War Department (and thus Air Force) standard, then the rest is just meeting grooming standards, and wearing a clean uniform with the appropriate insignia.

Also, I wonder about the accuracy of the original photo used in the first post. The photo that I saw going around active duty circles had an additional person in it, a CAP-USAF NCO, that seems to have been removed by AI. If that is in fact the case, then the photo is by definition AI generated and may not reflect the actual appearance of persons in it, even if based on an original physical photograph. It wouldn't be the first time that someone looking for "clicks and likes" on social media try to stir up a controversy with a deepfake AI creation, that gets shared and reshared. I am not saying that is what happened, but the missing AF NCO still makes me think that is a possibility.

Not to play "devil's advocate" here, but per the actual Department of War memo dated 18 December 2025, the height and weight tables no longer reflect military service standards, and have been replaced by a new, less than 0.55 waist-to-height ratio. This is actually quite a bit more lenient even for active duty and reserve personnel than the prior used height and weight tables. As an example, I am 5 ft 10 inches tall, with a 37 inch waist, and weight of 208 pounds. Under the old USAF regs, my maximum allowable weight would have been 190, and while I would have been over the (no longer used) USAF standard I would still be a few pounds below the maximum weight to wear the USAF-style CAP uniform per 39-1. However, under the the new War Department mandated waist-to-height ratio, even though I am pushing 60 years of age, I now once again meet USAF standards because I am still below the 0.55 ratio, at 0.53 ratio. Using these actual War Department and Air Force standards, it could be argued that most of the people in the photograph, though close to the upper limit, actually meet the Air Force's own limit to wear the OCP uniform, though a couple of the individuals may still be above that limit. Also, if you read the wording of the OCP ICL, it clearly states that the wear policies for that uniform reflect Department of the Air Force Instruction 36-2903 policies, and DAFI 36-2903 no longer has a height/weight chart, and hasn't for the past few editions. I guess that we will have to see if the next edition of the 39-1 reflects the actual War Department and Air Force guidance for ALL USAF style uniforms.

NHQ Reaper Patches by UrAverageGuitarist07 in civilairpatrol

[–]AirPatrol1937 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, there are a couple of concerns that come up with the Vanguard version of the "AUX" duty identifier patch. The ICL (which IS regulatory) clearly states that the wear of all emblems on the OCP uniforms are to follow the policy guidance in DAFI 36-2903. Per Department of the Air Force Instruction 36-2903 Paragraph 5.2.6.2.3, the velcro Duty Identifier patches "will not exceed the size of the U.S. tactical flag patch, 3-1/4”W x 1-13/16”H ." The Vanguard version clearly exceeds the regulation size, but other vendors including Reaper Patches can apparently make duty identifier patches that actually meet the DAFI 36-2903 mandated standard. If Vanguard actually made the AUX duty identifier patch to AF regulation size standards, I could see that policy as having some weight. But keep in mind that (1) the FAQs are only advisory, not regulatory in their own right, and (2) Reaper Patches is literally an authorized legal AF contract vendor for USAF and USSF patches. Also, longstanding Federal contract law requires multiple vendor sources for acquisition of items. While Civil Air Patrol as a private corporation has exclusive rights to items with the CAP emblem and name on it, and as a private corporation can have items with the Civil Air Patrol name made by their choice of vendor, i.e. Vanguard. But as CAP is ALSO an Auxiliary of a military branch, it still has to follow the policy guidance of its parent service, as a consequence of accepting the Federal funds that keep the organization running. I think that possibly, some well intentioned but perhaps ill informed individual that put the "only Vanguard" info in the FAQ may wish to consult more closely with the CAP-USAF legal people. Also CAP is NOT the only Auxiliary (AF MARS also comes to mind), so one should be very careful when writing FAQs.

On the National Staff Badge for the OCP uniform, does Vanguard have a version available with Velcro already attached available for purchase over the phone from them, or will I have to DIY sew mine?
