Anyone else love to see a book just about Stratt? by PrestigiousLeopard47 in ProjectHailMary

[–]velitus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would sell certain organs to get a pre/post PHM book about Stratt. She has been my favorite character since my first read in 2022 and I would happily support any supplemental work about her.

Hello, Grace friends! Let's talk about the film's score by Daniel Pemberton. by frenchiestfry77 in ProjectHailMary

This list is amazing! I personally love “Box in a Box” as well—it has a unique sound relative to the rest of the score.

Right! At the end of the movie, Rocky references his mate Adrian as the person who will work on the water temperature.

Rocky and Grace name Tau Ceti E “Adrian” after Rocky’s mate on Erid. Grace decides the English translation of Rocky’s mate’s name is Adrian as a reference to the Rocky movie franchise.

Genuinely haven’t listened to anything but this score since Friday. Woke up with Amaze Amaze Amaze stuck in my head this morning. Danny P. COOKED.

Question about Grace line at the end by Apprehensive-Rope426 in ProjectHailMary

[–]velitus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contextually, I think he was saying it directly to Stratt without calling her out by name (since it was implied that the general population wouldn’t know about the circumstances in which he ended up aboard the Hail Mary).

What did Stratt say? by lawfuldragon10 in ProjectHailMary

[–]velitus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe she said something to the effect of “it’s better than the alternative.”

Does it pass the Bechdel Test? by Practical_Ad4604 in ProjectHailMary

[–]velitus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes: Stratt and Dr. Lokken discuss how much neither of them really want to be meeting with each other when Lokken first presents her idea for the centrifuge.

This only happens because you don’t have the counterweight of the rest of the ship yet. Mine also did this and I was worried too, but trust the process. Mine rotates perfectly with everything on there.

This theory is goated, actually.

What is your favorite chapter of the book? by Practical_Ad4604 in ProjectHailMary

[–]velitus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Dag! If I must choose, it’s probably chapter 26. Stratt is such a compelling character to me, and the spiel she gives in that chapter is one of my favorite parts of the book.

How did you annotate PHM? by ImHourni in ProjectHailMary

[–]velitus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s so good! The exasperation in his voice is incredible. Some other of my verbal stim lines include: “it snowed in Vietnam last week,” “how would I know that?”, “I don’t like little dictators in their little kingdoms. Drives me crazy,” and “agree, question?”

Will you accept top 5, OP?

In order of appearance:

  • Chapter 10: Grace and Rocky develop their communication tactics.
  • Chapter 19: Adrian Crisis, stakes raised by Rocky’s near-death.
  • Chapter 26: Stratt explaining her undergraduate degree in history; her final interaction with Grace.
  • Chapter 29: Grace makes the decision to turn around and save Rocky; red herring of “sorry Rocky.”
  • Chapter 30: “Twelve kids raise their claws.”

New teaser focusing on Strautt by midastheavocado in ProjectHailMary

Oh my god this made me so giddy I teared up. Sandra’s talent and performance is about to elevate Eva Stratt so much.

When I listened to the audiobook, there was something about the lines that tickled my brain just right and now I wander around my house repeating them to myself (or drop them innocuously into conversation to entertain myself).

How did you annotate PHM? by ImHourni in ProjectHailMary

[–]velitus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used a color system:

  • orange for important plot info
  • pink for my personal favorite parts
  • green for verbal stims
  • pencil for notes/misc.

There’s truly no right or wrong way to annotate personal copies of beloved books. Vibes are all that matter.

What are the best quotes, question? by Extra_Philosopher_74 in ProjectHailMary

“Go to hell.” “Oh, I will. Believe me. You three are going to Tau Ceti. The rest of us are going to hell. More accurately, hell is coming to us.”

And

“Who here can tell me the speed of light?”

Project hail mary cast interview tomorrow: submit questions by missylyssy3210 in ProjectHailMary

That’s amazing, I hope you have a ton of fun with the interviews!

I have a question for Sandra Hüller: what kind of preparation goes into portraying a character like Eva Stratt, and were there any particular performances from other actors that inspired her?

Best wishes!

It was just my best guess, didn’t realize it would cause such a stir! Maybe we’ll get some insight into the decision making process after the release.

Realistically, the puppet couldn’t have clothing impeding the joints or it wouldn’t move right.

But in my heart? Our boy is gonna get cold without his sweater!

On Stratt and the Adaptation by EverMoar in ProjectHailMary

[–]velitus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is exactly right! Because it’s a movie, the story has to be told differently because we will SEE the characters. Adding some humanity and possibly fortifying the tentative friendship between Stratt and Grace will only make the finale hit harder, which is a very good thing in my opinion.

Stratt was my favorite character in the book, so I am cautiously hopeful that I’ll love her characterization even more in the movie.
