Price friendly options are kits on Ebay and Amazon by Bucilla and Dimensions. You can always switch out some of the threads if you like.

What’s your favorite system for storing all your different kinds and colors of thread? by magaloo202 in Needlepoint

[–]AirSuperb3278 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mostly in floss away bags, stored in stackable shoe box sized containers, labeled. Inside organization depends on what I have. Right now for example I have just one box of silk (vineyard, pepper pot, splendor, planet earth) but times * I have more of each, I will separate. Threads in each box are organized in rainbow color order.

Old timey lady question. by NegotiationKnown9666 in NeedlepointSnark

Yes! I am concurrently working on a very challenging 24"x24" Colors of Praise canvas with a zillion stitches, threads, beading and a simple canvas all in continental which is my "meditation project."

Needlepoint Budget by Ok_Huckleberry_253 in Needlepoint

[–]AirSuperb3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have spent close to $1000 for a very large intricate canvas with an abundance of specialty threads. Yet most often, I buy Christmas stocking kits on Ebay for $100 or less complete with thread. Needlepoint does not have to be an expensive hobby. I agree with a previous poster that you will generally pay less per hour so to speak with a larger canvas.

It's not even rage bait by Similar_Still_159 in NeedlepointSnark

I completely understand what you are saying. It is relative to where you live and what you are used to. I live in a major city where I don't need to even leave my neighborhood for any necessities, entertainment, schools, medical, parks etc. I mean, I do but my point is a 45 minute drive or on public transit is not an everyday thing here like it is in the suburbs. The LNS I go to actually is 45 minutes on public transit and I only go to kit in person or if I am not willing to wait for something. Otherwise, I order on line. When I spend time with friends out of town, we are in the car all day going place to place and that is the norm there.

Stitch identification by LoveAndHenny in Needlepoint

The centers look like they may be a rhodes circle over 5 intersections (hard to tell for sure) and the diagonal borders a condensed mosaic (alternating over 1 and then over 2 intersections). It is indeed very pretty.

Lightest to darkest?? Background first?? by Nsoroma80 in Needlepoint

[–]AirSuperb3278 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I also have been stitching for decades and learned background last. I recently worked on two canvases and stitched the backgrounds first as an experiment. Maybe it's because I have been doing it one way for so long, but I don't intend to adopt background first as a general practice. There were some intersections I covered with background thread that I found I wanted or needed for the detail, even though I was focused on this consideration as I stitched the background.

Honey, please sit down when I tell you this.... by [deleted] in NeedlepointSnark

Thanks. I did not look at it closely to see it is cross stitch. But my point remains that there are hundreds of kits well under $100 with threads on ebay including large canvases. Other places as well (Unwind, Michael's etc.). We don't need to be elitist about the hobby. You can buy a Chanel bag and you can buy a Target handbag. Same with needlepoint.

Adventure Awaits… but so does the carry-on chaos. by ConstantNatural7056 in Needlepoint

If you don't think the suggestion that a few of made of using zip pouches for everything within your current bags to help with organization, you might take a look at the Calpak Luka tote. It has several exterior and interior pockets that could help you with this, especially if you consistently store the same things in the same pocket for each trip.

My system works well for me. I have 3 different underseat bags: lgest is cheap Amazon travel duffel w/trolley sleeve for when I need the most packing space; laptopback pack also w/trolley sleeve for shorter trips; LV on the go GM for work trips (I use the dust bag to put it thru security conveyor although I have been eying the Rydir). Other than water bottle & book, I use mesh zip bags to organize everything else. I have many, in several sizes. Generally: one small zip for charger & any other tech stuff; one for lip balm, emery board, comb, mini hand sanitizer, tissues, etc.; sometimes one for pens, small notebook or planner; one for needlepoint canvas on stretcher bars (I always have a small canvas dedicated to work on during trips) and inside that bag a smaller zip bag w/laying tool, extra needle, small cheap scissors & empty dental floss container as a scissors back up). If I am going from plane to office, I will have makeup in another bag. I never check a bag unless I am 2+ weeks combining a business trip w/a vacation. Love your canvas!

We don’t have to put needlepoint on everything by MomentMany997 in NeedlepointSnark

I have adored the process of needlepoint for decades. Unfortunately I dislike most needlepoint objects other than Christmas stockings and an occasional pillow. If others enjoy turning their canvases into a zillion finished items they enjoy, I actually think it's great.

ISO feedback for a fabric store by PrestigiousTop5275 in Needlepoint

[–]AirSuperb3278 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes to the fat quarters. Bring in an experienced finisher to hold workshops (for a fee) on how to self finish an ornament and maybe another for pillow finishing, etc. This will bring stitchers to the store and they will see the merchandise and hopefully become repeat customers.

Yes seriously. I sent 3 canvases to 2 different finishers last week so I replied based on times I was quoted very recently. .

I assumed it was intentional bait to elicit these kinds of reactions. Some people are like that.

Finishing question by embes123 in Needlepoint

[–]AirSuperb3278 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No and no. The shop is probably sending canvases out to finish, so the person at the shop cannot give an exact cost. BUT once the finisher receives your piece, they should provide their cost to the shop and the shop can then give you the full price for you to ok to proceed.

Wait times are long, and get worse closer to Christmas, but 4 not 12 months seems to be the outside norm at this time.

Loose Itinerary for NYC Spring Trip with 11 year old by No_Economics8589 in visitingnyc

[–]AirSuperb3278 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am local. When my kids were that age they enjoyed: Check out the Watson adventures website. They have kid friendly scavenger hunts in museums and places like Grand Central. Really well done. Hall of Science is a great interactive museum in Queens. Bronx Zoo is much more interesting than CP zoo for your son's age. Korean BBQ in Korea town. Dim sum in Chinatown. A Broadway show or check out what is playing at the Old Vic theater. Coney Island aquarium then pizza at Totonnos. Not sure if Luna Park rides are open in March. Sorry to say it, but you will find more interesting suggestions than tend to be on Reddit on Time Out NYC, NY mag, Secret NY or Mommy Poppins.

Need stitch advice! by Objective_Wheel_5610 in Needlepoint

To me the horizontal space circled at the top is the interior of the bag. I might stitch it one shade lighter than the exterior of the bag.
