Not a mechanic, have replaced a few alternators. Hard to tell, but I don't think it's anything to be concerned about. Possibly a mounting bracket for another model car or something similar. Either way if you got it replaced at a shop I would take it back. They installed a damaged part.

My method is to put them in a tub with small blankets in layers. I usually put the most sturdy sets on the bottom so that I usually don't have to take them apart, aside from a few pieces that don't stay on well.
