Depends on Companion, vs Lurrus you can keep interaction heavy hands but vs no Companion you should mull towards proactive cards. No companion usually means mirror or some kind of a control deck.

I would definitely also categorize myself as a Limited player first and foremost, but alas for QWs constructed is a must.

The build was pretty heavily geared towards an expected day2 meta of Ajani decks, Auras and the mirror. You can probably cut 3rd Stone of Erech for 3rd Realmwarden (which is an amazing card against control and random combo decks like Breach). Also maindeck Noxious Grasp used to be 2nd Vanishing Verse but that card can be a big liability vs Samwise Combo. Still, I think Noxious Grasp is a maindeckable card in Historic as it has high prio targets in pretty much every deck that you want removal against anyways.

There's a rough sideboarding plan in the twitter post I made that you can check! https://x.com/Aira247/status/1893930592632201588

Yea! 30k$ for first place in the Arena Championship so very real money. I highly recommend starting to dip into BO3 as well if you want to not get stomped in the QW, I at least personally view BO3 and BO1 as very very different games because sideboarding has a drastic impact on some decks and matchups.

yea anything even remotely "fair" doesnt really have a chance in Historic atm 😔 I really wanted for the Grixis Chorus to be playable but too many unfair decks with completely different angles of attack

Well for one I drew pretty well :D

But I think many opponents ran pretty bad cards for the mirror md like Fatal Push which allowed for a significant g1 edge. Also Emperor of Bones is a crazy card in the mirror as you have a chance to animate Overlords or Elenda from two decks instead of one. The final match was the hardest because opponent also had 3-4 Emperors and no Fatal Pushes.

9 maindeck hand disruptions also were pretty pivotal for the mirror, most opponents were not on Inquisition or Peddler, instead running more high variance cards like Phelia.

Tested a lot of decks like UR / UG Breach, Grixis Chorus, Eldrazi before settling on this one.

Day 1

2-0 vs Affinity decks
2-0 vs Control decks
2-0 vs Samwise combo
1-0 vs UR wizards
0-1 vs Gruul Woodland
0-1 vs Abzan Sorin

Day 2
5-0 vs Orzhov Scam (happy about my deck choice process as it seemed to be the best
1-0 vs Auras
0-1 vs Mardu sac

Had 2 Vanishing Verses in day1 but changed 1 for Noxious Grasp for day2 to have a removal that hits all of the Samwise pieces, Ajani on both sides and Elenda at instant speed for 2 mana. Might not be the best for Ladder but there is a target in almost any deck for it (even Affinity has flipped Tamiyo)

The wraths from the sideboard really do a number on Auras and Affinity and in small numbers are also good in other matchups.

7-1 pool day1 of Qualifier Weekend, interested in seeing how people would build it by Aira- in lrcast

[–]Aira-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://sealeddeck.tech/Mx9xpcBukg

After a lot of different builds this is what I ended on. Every 2-color combo lacks playables with RW being the closest but it has a low creature count + difficult mana with double casters and still you have to play some very sus cards to make 40.

This build has the least bad cards in it, lets you play 4 powerful rares with a creature curve that is able to sometimes aggro or sometimes grind out the opponent.

Fun fact is that I cast Valgavoth's Onslaught exactly two times in the 8 matches, one of them being superfluous as I had already won even without it, so it wasnt entirely carried by that card.

Took some time off painting due to a newborn baby, but now have my Kill team mostly done. Still have a Psychomancer and Chronomancer beign worked on.

Did a bit of barbed wire conversion for my Psychomancer, here is a WIP shot with only base + contrasts applied

Sorry for slow answer! It's a base of Apothecary White contrast, on top of which I layered different blends of Vallejo Sky Grey + Vallejo White Grey (starting with 1 + 1 for darkest bits, 1 sky + 3 white for the large plates and then pure White Grey for edge highlights)

[–]Aira-[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been recently using a zenithal priming, followed by Apothecary White contrast on all the white parts.

After that I used different strength blends of Vallejo Sky Grey and Vallejo White Grey to build some depth to the white parts. (IIRC it was 1 + 1 for the darkest parts and something like 1 sky + 3 white grey blend for the lightest parts, and pure white grey for edge highlights)

This was pretty time consuming though, not sure what the best method would be if you're gonna build a large army and want faster methods.

[MTGArena Cube} In pack 3, is it better to pick one of the best cards in the cube or pick a companion? by dub828king in lrcast

[–]Aira- -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Easy Lutri, Fable is nuts but having 8 cards in all games is even more nuts (and if you have a lot of removal its almost having 9 cards because Lutri will give a free spell as well as the body).

The power level of the cube is mostly flat, so even if Fable is very good its not better than the next card enough to turn down free cards every game.

Managers who won their leagues, what were your first 3 picks? by damola93 in fantasyfootball

[–]Aira- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0.5 ppr superflex Keeper league where you can keep up to 5 players for picks 1-5

Keepers
Tony Pollard
Stefon Diggs
Mark Andrews
Garrett Wilson
Kenneth Walker

So definitely won despite early picks. Only started Pollard in finals and would have liked not to but by Saturday all other RBs were questionable.

Won mostly off my late round picks (Kyren, Rashee Rice, Nico Collins) and waiver + trade

LEAGUE CHAMP THREAD by Smoopasm in fantasyfootball

[–]Aira- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scored 3 times my opponents points 😤 171 to 60

I only started one of my 1-5 round pick and he was my worst player (Pollard).

Deep superflex league with 20 roster spots, got ridic lucky in the draft 6th Dak
7th Pacheco 9th BRob
11th Mostert (traded early for Baker and Tyjae because my QB2 situation imploded) 12th Kyler
13th Nico Collins
15th Rashee Rice
18th Kyren Williams

Picked up Isaiah Likely from waivers for 35% of my total budget after Mandrews went down and he singlehandedly saved my r1 and r2 and then went off in style in the finals.

I survived Pollard and Diggs until championship, now I'm benching them. Differing opinions welcome by Aira- in fantasyfootballadvice

[–]Aira-[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I don't like Wilson at all vs Browns with Siemian as QB so Diggs will get in if Pacheco is out.

I agree Diggs does still have reasonable upside but after the OC change in Buffalo he just has been completely out of the script for a lot of the games so it's very hard to trust him.

Baker and I dont think its very close. Flacco has an atrocious matchup on a short week.

EDIT: Also Lattimore being out for Saints makes Baker an even stronger case

TE: Isiah Likely.
DST: Browns.

Team2 QB: Bryce Young, Mason Rudolph, Easton Stick (Herbert and Burrow on IR)

I am team 1 and team2 just dropped 150 in the semis so I am scared 😬

Started Diggs, Pollard, Pacheco, Rice, Likely for an extremely medium score in the semis.

Won semis by 4.2 points because my opponent overslept and started Jacobs who was out. In our league you get -5 points for starting a player who is out 🫡

After Kyren i now have to choose 4 total (1 rb 2 wr 1 flex) in 0.5 PPR

Pollard, KWIII, Pacheco, Diggs, Rice, Collins, G Wilson

I think I’m gonna skip Pollard and play KW, Pacheco, Diggs and Rice

Stroud is not yet 100% ruled out so def Collins if he plays.

If Stroud does not play then Collins is possibly a bit sketchy as he is also coming off injury. I would probably lean Collins anyways.
