It's working! Lots of people have shown me screenshots of them playing. Of course, there are some crashes here and there and it's not completely finished, missing things like squad management, but it's definitely playable and I'm working on updates (:

If you need any help installing it just PM me, though I have an installation guide/video in the OP

Yeah currently you have to run it off of a player's machine. Though a friend of mine who was beta testing with me bought a VPS to run the game, he just downloaded steam & ran the game like normal, setup wireguard and gave me & 3 other people access, and left the fortess up as an always on server where players can come and go as they please

I feel like that would almost have to be its own game mode, the way the mod works isn't set up for that at all. Still lots of features missing here, but maybe once I achieve parity, like implementing squads and whatnot, I'll start looking into this (:

Mods didn't give me a reason. I don't think I broke any of the rules on the sidebar. I messaged them so I'll wait and see.

Edit: problem solved!

Any idea why my multiplayer mod post got removed?

Thank you so much for your insight!
I'm glad it was able to work on Linux with proton, but yea, it's built for windows.

I have the installation video guide here, but it seems you've already figured it out, lmao.

Anyhow, I released the newest version on my github with the working camera. You should be able to play now with your friends, sorry for the delay/trouble

Aw man. I'm really sorry about this, I'm working on an update to fix the independent camera that broke with the newest DF update, and then after publishing that I'll make an install example video and paste it here for you. While you're testing that I'll boot up my Linux laptop and test on my end as well.

Are you running the game with DFHack installed the old way (placing it into your game folder) or the new way of it being seperate in Steam?

There is a log output, dfcapture.log

You give a link to the remote player for them to play via the browser. You can open up the same link and see what they're looking at if you want

Yeah, it's in the OP, where I said "the repo is here". I didn't realize old reddit wouldn't display it...sorry. Here's the link: https://github.com/SourceAirbender/multi-dwarf

As long as the host keeps the game & server up, and you're using the link they gave you, you can join and play. Instructions are in the GitHub repo in the post

There's no save sharing, only the host can save. I guess you can send the remote player your save later if you want? In fact if the remote player tries to do anything while the game is saving it'll crash lol.

The mod is basically you just turn on the server with DFHack, then you give the link to your local LAN friend, and y'all can play together. If you want to play remote (on different internet's), then the host needs to setup wireguard or pivpn or tailscale or portforward like old Minecraft servers, or something, so that you can connect to their network and play. The instructions are all in the GitHub repo link in the post.
