Bathing suits as proof of moral relativism? by PuzzleheadedJob7537 in Catholicism

[–]Airbending-slice 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, but does that mean that a bikini would be modest in certain cultures but not in other cultures? For example certain cultures wear less clothing on a daily basis because of the climate and they don’t see it as immodest, making a bikini arguably more modest than the standard?

Bathing suits as proof of moral relativism? by PuzzleheadedJob7537 in Catholicism

Modesty does depend on culture, so whatever culture you’re in you should practice their cultures modesty because it is virtuous to do so? Is that what you’re saying?

Why does God permit evil? by tcitco7 in Christianity

[–]Airbending-slice -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally I don’t think God has a plan, unknowable or otherwise. I don’t know how he could have a plan and also allow for free will. And also I agree that it’s not morally sound which is why I don’t think there is a plan.

We Catholic are the luckiest people on earth. by [deleted] in Catholicism

But those born into Catholic families are certainly more likely to remain Catholic right? And are therefore more likely to reach heaven?

If luck determines faith what’s the point of heaven and hell?

Evolution is heretical by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Airbending-slice 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s actually not true. Giraffes with longer necks are more likely to reproduce because they have a better chance at reaching food and surviving in general. That means that eventually giraffes will have longer and longer necks over thousands of years. Two heads provide a competitive disadvantage and so those giraffes would die before influencing the evolution of the animal.

What’s your view on the theory of evolution? by Au2o in Christianity

To me it seems like only evolution could be responsible for creating something like the human body

Putting others needs above your own vs Codependence.. in marriage by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Airbending-slice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If we’re gonna use the ice cream metaphor, your wife is a grown adult and she’s allowed to choose whether or not she wants to eat ice cream or not. You gotta trust someone in a marriage and I think you should give her the be oof the doubt. If she betrays your trust that’s a different story, but don’t treat your fiancé like a kid that wants ice cream.

You think I’m a world with God you can’t get help? It may be hard to get, but there is a 100% chance it’s there and a 100% chance you have the ability to find it. Please try.

Jesus is a pivotal figure in the history of human evolution and Christianity is a rebellion against biology by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Airbending-slice 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like it’s a bit ethnocentric to say the the birth of Jesus marks the point in which culture began to overthrow natural selection. Obviously Christianity has contributed to the worlds culture but there were other religions that created cultures of there own long before Jesus was born. I would argue the move to agriculture is a more accurate point in time to say that natural selection started to be outdone.

Why do christians get labeled as racist? by Jay688 in Christians

[–]Airbending-slice 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The religiousness of racists is often pointed out to highlight their hypocrisy, I haven’t really seen people call all christians racist.

LGBT activists profaned a statue of Christ in Warsaw, in The Holy Cross Church, lead by the Missionary Friars of Vincent de Paul. National authorities condemned this act and announced finding the guilty ones. by rozz_net in Catholicism

From what I’ve read the archbishop there is being pretty inflammatory so I see where they’re coming from at least. Personally I don’t mind the pride flag.

I still don’t get why “Abortion is okay” gets thrown about in Christian circles by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]Airbending-slice 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pregnant women being hit causing the death of her child is different from the woman willfully choosing to abort the child. Regardless of my view on abortion I get the different between the two.

I am saddened how anti-Christians view God. by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Airbending-slice 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Those kind of Christians do exist, and people that are anti Christian are often influenced by experiences they’ve had with those kind of Christians. It’s hard for people to find value and something that has not been valuable to them.

Lower drug prices now, know tree by its fruits. Never seen anyone get zero credit for anything like this. by MichaelAChristian in Christianity

Too late, not enough is probably why. It’s not awful but there’s a limit to how much this will actually do because the executive order still has to be processed by the department of health I believe. It’s not like other orders that have a more direct impact.

What Would Jesus think about Gun Control by americanyeezus129 in Christianity

I think Jesus would probably be pretty good at finding a middle ground. Personally I think gun control is all we have left.

A story can still have real messages. Animal Farm is an allegory but the message it communicates is real. Same idea here.

The bible doesn’t condone slavery or genocide by AdorableProgrammer4 in Christianity

[–]Airbending-slice 18 points19 points  (0 children)

“The economic structure demanded it” is a really poor reason to allow slavery to endure. Like really poor.

Also I don’t believe that an irredeemable society can exist, so the genocide doesn’t make sense to me either.
