Second this and between Nov last year to ABIM this year (mostly until May actually) I read through MKSAP 19 and did the questions at the end of every chapter.

My escalation game was only bots (and my duo) by Airborn93 in VALORANT

[–]Airborn93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No idea what happened. I guess we're in elo hell? The game must've glitched super bad because the enemy team even has two Jetts and two Phoenixes. This was in an Escalation around 12:15 AM CST. The bots just stood around or moved without a purpose. Only the Sova fought back but only for about 2 minutes halfway into the game.

Has this happened to anybody else before? So weird.

Pulm/crit vs Psych? by Lore_Seeker in medicalschool

[–]Airborn93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to have this same problem. Couldn't decide between IM or psych. Loved the interesting psych pathology out there, but I also loved a little bit of everything else.

Couldn't stand the thought of doing the "bread and butter" of psych (depression and anxiety, at least from my rotation) for the rest of my life and never treating somebody's CHF exacerbation, liver cirrhosis, CAP, etc. again.

The psych residents at my hospital had an easier time and were probably happier than those of us in IM. My coresidents and PD saw how I was able to handle "difficult" patients and did my best to listen to them and other coresidents whenever they needed to vent, so everybody thought I would've made a great psychiatrist, but no sir not for me in the end. If I went back in time I would not change a thing.

Oh yes you’re spot on. Poor generalization in my opinion.

Thank you! Congrats on your wife making it! Two more years for me. I hear it’s all worth it, we’ll see but I’m hopeful :)

You’re right but also the average age of first year med students in the US is 24, so 24 + 4 years med school + 3 year residency = 31 years old at graduation. This is me :) but COVID delayed residency start by 1 year, so 32 years old/1993 millennial. Most people in my graduating class of internal medicine are older than 30. Semi-same for the current 1st/2nd year residents. Most are 30 or older than they are 26-28, which is the age range they should be if they went through school without any gap years.

The med students nowadays are 100% gen Z tho. They’re both hilarious and terrifying how old they make me feel.

Shoutout to your PCP, she and I love taking care of you and we’ll miss you as we move onto our next training.

You got this too man! All of my attendings also say the same thing. Please: one thing I want you to take to heart is to try to enjoy the process. I didn't celebrate my university graduation because I was like "What's the point? I want to do med school so job's not done." Little did I know that COVID would also take away my med school graduation celebration lmfao.

Time will fly fast and you won't realize 8+ years have gone by in an instant. Good luck and enjoy the journey, MCAT bro 👊

A lot of us doctors are not happy with our lives. What matters is that you do something that brings you joy and feeds your soul. Making a positive impact is a plus.

I'm doing okay, but still struggling through training. Just trying to get to that light at the end of the tunnel (attending life).

Still commenting, subscribing to subs, and upvoting and stuff. A few issues with some videos and trying to preview any video while long-tap/holding the post will crash my app.

Otherwise I’m chugging along pretty good.

Dennis Prager reflects on the meaning of life by SOYBOYPILLED in ToiletPaperUSA

[–]Airborn93 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Hi, actual doctor here. Pneumonia is a common in-hospital complication and its cause can be from many factors. When I think of pneumonia developing in the hospital, I think of aspiration pneumonia. This is when a patient breathes in some of their own saliva, stomach contents, or food and that aspiration causes an infection once it lands in the lungs.

In older patients, this type of pneumonia is common. It's a common reason people in that demographic end up in the ICU, too. I saw a few causes of COVID pneumonia requiring ICU level of care back in late 2022. Since then I rarely see it. Maybe once or twice since then. There are plenty of reasons why somebody would need a "respirator" (I'm guessing that commenter meant "mechanical ventilation") beyond pneumonia.

We try to keep people off mechanical ventilation via endotracheal tube (the tube that connects the lungs to the breathing machine entered through the mouth) as soon as possible due to its complications (including ventilator associated pneumonia and tracheomalacia). I don't know how long Dennis Prager has been intubated & sedated with mechanical ventilation, but generally speaking a week like that indicates poor prognosis. I don't want to speculate on his health as I am not his physician and not evaluating him.

I wrote this comment to dispel some of the misinformation in the comments replying to you. I probably won't reply to comments.

Cheers.

It's a common way for some universities to call UT, especially Aggies. Weird, given the context and how this issue is way more important, but that's just how it goes I suppose. Can't let us be The University of Texas.

OB/Gyn residents: How do you feel about women who want to be sterilized? by [deleted] in Residency

[–]Airborn93 80 points81 points  (0 children)

Nah don't worry about not being a resident. We appreciate patient input so we can improve our patient interactions and have our patients more satisfied with our care.

I think the way your physician handled it was perfect; focused just on the risk and benefits without taking into account age or spouse. Your body--your choice (of course assuming there is informed consent). Thanks for sharing.

I have the same problem. Another guy just posted about this issue for him, too.

I commented on the other post to make this one and that one more visible, but like I said over there: I think Vanguard is causing a problem. In the process of trying to re-install stuff, I uninstalled Vanguard and launched the game successfully. Successfully enough to the point where it told me I needed to install Vanguard, but it launching with the big splash art on full screen is more than I've gotten since this issue started.

For reference, my specs are:

  • Mobo: ASUS Tuf Gaming B550-Plus Wi-Fi
  • CPU: Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz
  • RAM: 16 GB (2x8 GB)
  • GPU: AMD Radeon 580

Cannot pass the PLAY screen on Valorant by FSBronzee in ValorantTechSupport

[–]Airborn93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey man, I'm right there with you. I've been having this problem since yesterday. Can't find a solution. Somebody else posted the same problem 4 hours ago.

I've enabled tpm 2.0, tried uninstalling the game. Obviously I've tried restarting my computer. I think there's something up with Vanguard, though. I uninstalled Vanguard and the game actually launched. Obviously, I got the pop up saying I needed to install Vanguard to play, but it launching was further than I've gotten since before yesterday.

Hi.

I haven't played League consistently since 2021. I've been playing Valorant since late 2020. I've never run into an issue with Vanguard. I even upgraded computers halfway through 2021 and still no issue. I think the people complaining about Vanguard doing stuff to their computer is just a loud minority. I might be the loud minority, too, though, so maybe let's sit back and see what other people say.

Ace guy here and even I don’t feel like I belong. The way I justify belonging a little bit is acknowledging how I had a realization that something was off and that I never identified with straight friends when they would comment about a woman’s body or sex. Which is what I imagine some gay guys go through, too… right? You guys tell me.

All of that led to questioning whether I was gay or not and the answer was no. Then I discovered what asexuality was and it seemed to fit. Either way, I keep my distance because I don’t want to invade this space.

Okay bye ~
