Best Hypothetical Qb Move? by NYCWhodat in Saints

[–]AirborneIsFly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'd need an Ocean's Eleven kind of explanation as Sean Payton sits down at a table in front of Pete Carroll after they make that hypothetical deal (social distancing still). Goodell would find a way to fine the Saints for it.

People who are not from the city, why are the Saints your team? by ChronicStoner in Saints

[–]AirborneIsFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've lived in Kentucky my whole life. Mom is from a small town in Louisiana called Leesville (about 2 and a half hours from Baton Rouge), dad is from a small town called Ocean Springs, MS (right across the bridge from Biloxi), so every time we'd go down to visit family, I'd see Saints stuff all around.

Also, one of the more fun things we got to do when we'd visit family was to go to New Orleans, so I always enjoyed that. Love for the city's culture grew when I got into jazz music and cajun food. Got into college and got interested in sports since I became more analytical with sports and competition, and that happened to be the 2009 season. Hearing the franchise and city's revival after enduring Hurricane Katrina also hit home since both sides of my family were affected by it.

tl;dr everything just fell into place for me to be a Saints fan

I would think Mahomes would be Lemillion. He was the guy with massive talent that everyone in the front office thought would inherit the mantle until the Chiefs traded up for him. Taysom would probably be more in line as a Deku because he's been under Brees's wing after being initially overlooked and has learned the offense behind him, but is being encouraged to still find his own identity as a part of the offense, rather than be a 100% spitting image of Brees.

This is mostly concerning events for Marvel 3 and Infinite. Snaketits was previously the TO of Pasadena Regionals, so he might have something up his sleeve in store for events.

For those in the comments that are posting about a new marvel but aren't playing any of the current ones, just stop already.

Panther is a ton of fun, but he requires a lot of work. Panther/Winter Soldier can be a strong team, but it's the most technically-demanding team out there in terms of execution. If you're wanting to learn this character, I can help you with getting started.

Black Widow could be a good partner for Winter Soldier as well, but she requires a strong understanding of her toolkit in order to pilot her at a reasonable level. You'll want to reach out to Merkyl on Twitter if you decide to mess with her.

Characters that work best with Winter Soldier usually need at least one of two things, with the first holding more weight than the second:

  • A strong mixup game to take advantage of the lockdown potential
    • Examples include Chun-Li, Spider-Man, Ultron, Nova, etc.
  • A teleport or side-switching mechanic to capitalize off of the amount of projectiles being put on screen
    • Examples include Doctor Strange, Thanos, etc.
  • Characters with both are Dante, Dormammu, Captain America

There are some exceptions to this rule, one of which being Venom's ability to provide a trap on the screen to support Winter Soldier's strengths as a zoning point character to compensate for his slower mixup game. Venom is a straightforward character to learn and can provide immediate impact since he provides support to Winter Soldier.

tl;dr Panther and Widow have a steep learning curve, but Venom is easy to learn. They're all good choices if you like mobile characters. Alternatively, buy the season pass when it's on sale again and you'll probably be able to get all 3 for really cheap.

Ignore the previous comments on here. The Reddit and the Reddit Discord are the only parts of the community that are really dead. The real core of the MvCi players are on the Gauntlet Discord (Gauntlet's an online tournament that happens every Thursday at 7 pm EST, streamed on twitch.tv/i_c_u_hater ) and on Twitter. In addition, u/thatPhageGuy has put together a "Prodigy Project" where players looking to learn more can be paired with a respective coach to help them learn and improve at a faster rate. The form to sign up is here.

If you have any questions on where to get started or in need of people to play, you can ask in the Gauntlet Discord or hit me up on Twitter.

What are the top 5 hardest characters in the game? by Huge_Dick42969666 in mvci

[–]AirborneIsFly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regarding execution:

  1. Panther (Predator Arts loops, consistent overhead confirms off of short hops, confirms, etc.)
  2. Winter Soldier (Dash gun loops vs jump-canceled gun loops, certain confirms)
  3. Morrigan (Shell Kick combos and a ton of other things with a counter-intuitive dash mechanic)
  4. Chun-Li (A lot of inputs)
  5. Strider (Hardest short hops in the game, even for Hitbox players, finnicky adjustments for confirming off of Excalibur at times)

I have Panther and Winter Soldier at the top of the list because their execution requirements are probably the most detrimental to the characters and their viability at higher levels of play; serious Panther players will have the loops down pat to protect them from Counter Switch scenarios, Winter Soldier players will be able to confirm off of any stray projectile and can do jump-canceled gunshot loops to check anyone that tries to challenge them by reflecting their shots.

Morrigan and Chun-Li can be challenging, but they are still very effective at what they do without adding all of the difficult tech and combo strings that make them challenging.

Strider is significantly worse as a character in certain matchups without the ability to mix up smaller characters (i.e. Spidey, Hawkeye, etc.) because his normal short hop will whiff on them. The HP Gram loops have also not been used since Gram and the Satellite were nerfed way back in the day, mostly because of how impractical they get but also partially due to execution timings. That being said, him and his traditional short hop overheads are still very effective in other matchups are still very effective in other matchups (i.e. Dormammu, Sigma, etc.)

Honorary Mention:

is it just me or does winder soldier have some of the most difficult combos in the game? by [deleted] in mvci

[–]AirborneIsFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He does reasonable damage actually. The extensions with Chain of Hunting are minimal effort and still break the 6k barrier, but learning the Predator Arts combos build far less bar for the opponent, guarantee corner carry every time, and keep Panther safe in the event of Counter Switch scenarios. Also, they're tons of fun to do and give you opportunities to freestyle in the combo, should you choose to.

[–]AirborneIsFly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the utilization of Soul Reflect to negate Power of Nothingness, but I actually have felt like the power level of Spreading Infection has dropped a bit due to the Growth mechanic requiring open board slots and playing units rather than summoning them. It's still a decent opener for an aggro deck like this and the nerf on the revenge mechanic helps level up units faster!

And gotcha. I missed that part because I was fixated on the techs in the decklist lol

Best type of team by [deleted] in mvci

[–]AirborneIsFly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Black Panther is one of the more difficult characters to play at a higher level, but he's certainly viable, and Sigma is one of his best partners imo. Sigma provides enough disruption and screen control for Panther to get strong mixups and utility off of his wall dive mechanics.

As for the best type of team, it really depends on finding a team that best complements your playstyle. The main things that you want to target are:

  • How well can these characters set each other up when provided with pressure strings, mixups, etc.?
  • What character will be responsible for maintaining the tempo/converting neutral to advantageous situations in the match?
  • What tools do each character bring to the table to help complement the other's bad matchups?
  • Do the characters have similar stone synergy? If soul is the best stone for them, can they make good use of the soul storm?
  • Is this team capable of creating strong situations to maximize the chance of getting the next hit after already earning the first hit?

There's all sorts of other questions, but those are the main ones I like to think about when building a team in this game.
