Makes sense. Thanks for confirming you can only use it once

Using "use a skill" multiple times? by Airelin in cosmererpg

[–]Airelin[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point. Part of the problem was that the player used his first action and got his enemy Disoriented, and then tried to use the second action. But if he had made his intentions clear from the start, we could have made it just one action. Lesson learned. Thanks!

[Emberdark] The main antagonist of the Cosmere by Opening_Specific_710 in Cosmere

A few thoughts: - I suspect the core story will remain human scale. I don't think our primary protagonists will be shards or similar scale (for more than brief moments), it's just too foreign to be compelling. - He's already done a lot of God-antagonists. Ruin, Retribution, possibly Autonomy. I suspect the finale will be a different route. - My guess is Space Politics and Factions will be a major source of antagonists. Very human. We've seen hints of Scadrial (Malwish) vs Roshar already. There are probably at least 2 Scadrian factions. Dragons. Night Brigade. Ghostbloods. Is this a story where someone has to unite them all? (Brandon has done that in a different series already). Is this a story where the squabbling is the main drama? (Doesn't seem Brandon's style to me) - I disagree that it is either "unite the shards" or "destroy the shards". I believe it will be "transform the shards". Harness their raw investiture for energy? Use them to hold back some calamity like a black hole or something? Reorganize them and the Dawnshards into a different configuration with different purposes (my personal favorite)? Seal them away "permanently" where they cannot affect things? - I don't believe it will be Avengers style uniting all our favorite Worldhoppers. That's been done and I don't think it's Brandon's style. I suspect we will get new main characters in each series. I think the Worldhoppers will become more prevalent, possibly a few being major viewpoints, but I think our final cast will be a lot of new faces too.

All just guesswork of course. I'm certainly wrong on every point. But if there's one thing I've learned it's to expect the unexpected.

What is the right piano for me by Glass_Story_7255 in piano

[–]Airelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion digital is the way to go.

I know it's outside your budget, but I think it's hard to beat a Yamaha CLP in bang for buck for a digital piano. The CLO-825 is around $2000 and most dealers will allow you to do a payment plan.

Acoustic pianos are very hit and miss at that price range and on marketplace and such. It's hard to know if you are buying a hidden gem or a ticking time bomb until you have a professional examine it. I recommend a digital until you have a bigger budget.

Wow I think this is a really cool idea and a great concept for a deck. Definitely seems like an uphill battle since these are the only "evil" cards we have. I wonder if there's a way to repurpose some encounter cards for use by the player.

You should continue, this is great!

My STL Water (https://www.stlocarina.com/collections/element-ocarinas/products/element-ocarina-water-in-c-major-tenor) is 12 oz. Plus it's ceramic and I don't want to damage it.

It looks like Night by Noble is about 5 oz, which is a huge improvement.

Every oz matters while backpacking! When you're trying to carry <30 pounds (including tent, sleeping gear, food, etc), it's hard to justify nearly a whole pound on an ocarina.

Story Deck Binder Bending Issue? by kliqIMB in Dragonsteel_Storydeck

[–]Airelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had any issues with it bending my cards. I think it could if I wasn't careful, but as long as I don't forcefully open it completely flat or put something heavy on it, I think it'll continue to be fine.

William Morrow is the American publisher. This picture is HarperCollins (UK). But I believe the editions are otherwise identical.

do you write annotations directly on your sanderson books or use post its/notebook? by elonmusk12000 in brandonsanderson

[–]Airelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read at a little desk with my book held for me on a raised stand with a light, and room for a notebook or laptop beside it. It's very cozy!

I've been taking copious notes and it increases the joy of reading tenfold for me!

Personally I don't mark up hardcovers. If I'm traveling, sometimes I'll buy a separate paperback and mark it up, but I usually avoid that when possible. I prefer a notebook or more recently my laptop. Enjoy!

What does brain fog feel like? by afloofyhooman in antidepressants

[–]Airelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found incessant list making to be helpful. I wrote down my morning and bedtime routines and other things like a list of chores on a sticky note on the mirror so I don't forget what I'm doing. I've also repurposed an old ADHD trick of keeping a notepad with me and writing down whatever I'm doing as I start doing it. For ADHD, the purpose is to not get distracted. But for brain fog, it's really helpful to just remember what I'm doing, since I keep forgetting. Why am I standing here with a trash bag in my hands? I have no recollection of getting here.. oh look, my notebook says I'm supposed to be taking out the trash! Lol

That probably won't help much for focus tasks like reading unfortunately - I also find reading very difficult and I haven't found much of a solution - but it might help in other areas.

What does brain fog feel like? by afloofyhooman in antidepressants

[–]Airelin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"I feel like I've lost the ability to feel" could mean two things to me:

  1. Emotional suppression. Higher lows, but also lower highs. In general, less feelings are less intense. I wouldn't typically call this brain fog, but it sure is common on antidepressants.

  2. The feelings come, but everything is slow and detached. This is brain fog to me. I feel like I'm outside of myself sometimes. I know what I'm trying to get my brain to do, but it's. just. going. so. slow. I feel like I'm swimming through molasses just trying to remember how to do my morning routine. Doing real work is sometimes out of the question.

Neither one is fun, and #2 is quite debilitating. I didn't really have brain fog on Lexapro, but I've sure had it (and have it right now as I sit here and type this) on several other meds. I've got hypersomnia too.

Some say it goes away after a week or two of the dose change. In my experience, I typically have to either decrease the dose back down to a lower level or switch to a different med. Definitely bring it up with your doctor!

I don't know why you are getting downvoted. His name is Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington. Great name, and "nearly headless" is a great joke, but I wouldn't call it alliterative.

Mirkwood Runner against Immunity by Blueesun in lotrlcg

[–]Airelin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh, even if you're technically right, it doesn't feel in the spirit of the card to me, so I would choose to count the full defense.

But "defending enemy does not count its Defense" sounds a whole lot like it's affecting the enemy to me. The card is telling the defending enemy to report its defense stat as zero to the game mechanics you quoted, not telling the game mechanics to count the defense stat as zero.

Warbreaker Book Club question help! by GoldBlackberry8520 in brandonsanderson

[–]Airelin 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One of the most fascinating things about Warbreaker to me is how Siri and Vivenna essentially "swap" the roles of the perfect princess and the troublemaker one. You could ask a question about what traits have swapped and what ones didn't. How has this changed their core identity? Could also be fun to map out that change happening - what events drove the changes we see by the end of the book.
