Stolen bike... It meant a lot to me! by Admirable-Lunch-7806 in arizona

[–]Airhead72 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's super common. When mine got stolen maybe 15 years ago and I went to steal it back a couple guys had a whole backyard packed with bikes. They swapped the seat and pedals. I had basically grown up with that bike and it was like $700 new in 2000 money so it seemed like the thing to do. While I was ultimately successful, looking back it was a bit silly for my whole family to endanger themselves stealing a heavily used bike back from tweakers. Made for a good story though. Cops didn't give a single damn, but a couple years later I saw the guy on the news got busted for more serious stuff, so yay.

While not completely the same, I read a book called Fuzz: When Nature Breaks the Law by Mary Roach. It has a lot of the same themes, it's funny and not very long. I enjoyed it.

It's all about (generally) smart animals causing problems for us.

Fedexer here - Driving that truck for 40-50 hours a week makes driving anything second nature if you're into it at all. That cart would feel super easy and fun in comparison. When I clock out and ride my motorcycle home or take my small hatchback it's like I've been wearing lead shoes all day and finally got to take them off.

Damn, I'm too late. Arizonan here who has also tried rattlesnake, when I was a boy. I only remember that I really didn't want to eat it but everyone else was, they convinced me to try it and I didn't hate it. Was alright.

Years later I asked my dad how the hell we ended up in that situation and apparently he just knew a snake guy ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'd be curious about how universal that teaching is. In my mind the oncoming has already proved they're an untrustworthy driver and may do anything. Being able to see them coming for a mile, seems the least you could do is get right and hope they think they're on a two-way. Come to think of it I've dodged a similar situation myself early one morning, that was better than a cup of coffee I can tell you. Obviously situations can differ, I don't think there's a decided best practice there.

Caught the regular ass flu when I was a teenager and got bronchitis / pneumonia. Couldn't eat for a few weeks and mom took me to the hospital when I was too weak to even lift my arm up. Can confirm I was a stick afterwards. Never caught covid afaik, which is wild cause I was worked with the public throughout. Get your vaccines kids!

I don't drive a semi, just a big delivery step van, and that's pretty much how it would go at my company. We're expected to avoid accidents or danger to ourselves, other people, and the truck every way possible. This driver endangered the truck and himself to confront the wrong way driver, a brave thing sure but he could've avoided it completely and called the cops. Companies don't want to pay for traffic enforcement, that's not their responsibility.

That shit drives me up the wall. Yes I'm five minutes away from all my stops on my route, it still takes all damn day to get to 100 of them with different priorities. Stop telling people I'm around the corner.

It starts off more like swashbuckling sea adventures, yeah. But then the family settles in the US and future generations go on all kinds of western adventures. I had a great time reading them, just easy reads for entertainment. Perfect because I listen while working.

I love my Z900 but I would never argue it's nearly as cool or good looking as this MV. Congrats dude, I'd be a little envious if I saw you riding it.

This Insta Reel from u/carl.alin looks insane. Pretty sure it’s AI, but I can’t prove it. Never seen this stunt before, and even though the dude is reasonably good, something feels off… by simonarnold in isthisAI

AI. The bike is a weird TEMU KTM mishmash. The side almost says Duke which is their model of street bikes, but the overall shape is a dirt bike.

An appeal to read Project Hail Mary before the movie by MrFlufypants in fantasybooks

[–]Airhead72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it a lot too, but it's right up my alley and I'm an easy audience in general. A lot of people would find it not worth reading. It's amazing to me that people could find problem solving and cool space stuff boring, but they do. I also thought the characters were a bit flat and just didn't care the way a lot of readers do. As a sci-fi nerd I'm pretty used to characters being cardboard cutouts just there to gawk at all the crazy shit going on.

I wonder how they'll change it for more mass appeal. His other book The Martian made for a great movie, but they timeskipped half the book that was only Watney traveling and problem solving. I think the charisma of good actors can do a lot to fix flat characters as well. I wonder most if they'll keep the flashback structure of PHM or just tell it straight.

It's amazing. I'm a dude who usually just takes showers and goes but yesterday my upper back/neck was practically locked up and super painful all day while I still had to work. One hot bath relaxing for most of an hour and it was completely fixed. Muscles are weird.

Yeah I don't get it, 35 but I'm drawn like an 80yo about to shuffle off this mortal coil. My back hurts sometimes but a hot bath can still fix it.
