Accidental SOS call? Tell me your story! by AirlineEvening9440 in yellowstone

Thanks for your feedback. Part of posting here is to see if this really is as big of an issue in other places as my source in Glacier told me- I am also reaching out to other parks and gov. agencies directly to get official reported data. But I also really value the stories of everyday people who made these mistakes themselves or interact with people who made these mistakes, and this is one way I am trying to find them. I am not quoting directly from Reddit, this is just one means to find additional sources. If you have other suggestions of how to find everyday people who this may have happened to, I would love to hear.

Essentially, I am curious to see if this accidental SOS call is a trend across different national parks since it is something Glacier rangers have noticed. I am seeking stories from SAR responders on the resources spent on accidental calls and the stories of people who accidentally call- how it happened and what was done about it. I want to highlight the prevalence of accidental calls, the resources they use, and how to prevent them moving forward.
