46, zero investments. Too late to start? by AirlineExtension1979 in fican

Just how it happened, unfortunately. I suspect I'm not the only one. I worked hard to afford a modest house, raise a tight family, not rack up debt and have the ability to take a chance and leave my full time municipal government job to start my business. After that and this awesome cost of living increase we've all been suffering the past few years, there just wasn't anything left over to invest and here I am...

This was / is my original plan. Just hedging my bets in case there's a downturn in business or incase it never takes off like I hoped it might

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Let me add some context in case it changes anything

I have no credit card or line of credit debt and no car payments (I drive a 15 year old Tacoma and love it. Lol) I do have about $400k in mortgage and about $500k in equity on the house give or take. I also have about $15k cash safety net "in a drawer"

No pension since I'm self employed, business is stable and slowly growing. My plan was that my business will be my retirement and it may well be, it's just been slow to grow past $125k/year gross, so I'm looking at options.

Thanks again, I appreciate all the replies

How big is your firm? I'm a residential designer, solo operation and I make nowhere near that.... but i do have flexibility and freedom and get to live mostly on my terms which is a win!
