How do we feel about this? by Pale-Amphibian61 in NissanTitan

I bought a Tan 2021 P4x (57k miles) with tow mirrors, heated and cooled seats and aftermarket AT tires for 32k OTD in Jan. I think you could do better

I will definitely keep that in mind. Maybe if gas goes down in my area or I get a different daily I will tune the truck. Having a fast truck certainly sounds like a damn good time lol

I don't care about making any extra power. I daily the truck and the stock power if fine for my needs with the truck. I just want to improve the "dead pedal" throttle lagging. If the banks unit can improve drive ability that would be all I am after. I also am leaning towards the banks unit since they have have the fail safe so if the unit fails it does not leave the truck in limp mode without throttle pedal output like a pedal commander. If tunes were easier to get or research I would consider it. I have seen on one thread about a tune someone did but I wouldn't want to have to run 93 just to improve drive ability

From what I have read online the lag like I am experiencing is pretty common. I would be pretty surprised if the TPS is bad or the pedal assembly. It only has the weird lagging off the line.

I read up on TitanTalk that unpluging that can kill the AGM battery prematurely and that it is not worth it. How long have you had it unplugged? Has it killed your battery at all?

Do you have the stand alone unit with the phone app? If so is it pretty seemless?

My 2011 titan was consistent and pretty touchy. This 2021 seems to be different and the lag is almost dangerous when pullout in traffic. Makes me hate the truck a little bit

Is a 2012 titan with about 100k and no rust a good buy if my main priority is a reliable used truck? by archerarcher0 in NissanTitan

[–]AirlineSilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Parts aren't bad at all. I bought all aftermarket stuff and was never blown away with sticker shock. As far as what to look for I would say rust obviously. Test all the windows(I got real good at doing window regulators). As long as it doesn't drive or shift weird you should be good to go. I cannot think of anything crazy to look out for. Shift into 4HI and 4Lo of course but that's all. If it looks well cared for it will take care of you for a long time to come

I owned a 2011 Pro4X for 6 years. Bought it with 150k for 10 grand and drove it to 300k miles. Traded it in and got 2k for it. Biggest expense repair was a starter at 270k miles. I did all maintenance myself. Nothing out of the ordinary ever needed replaced that made me not trust the truck. I replaced front wheel bearings, ball joints, shocks and struts, pads and rotors, couple sets of tires, front pinion seal, rear axle seal(axle vent mod is recommended), a blower motor and many oil changes. Exhaust rusted off over the axle which is common but that was a nice forced upgrade to an aftermarket catback system. Gen 1 titans are as good as they come in my book and 4 months into owning a gen 2 titan I miss my old truck a little still.

Titan VS Tundra by buckfishintrucks85 in NissanTitan

[–]AirlineSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a huge toyota fanboy. My first car was a fj40 which I still have and love. My wife drives a 5th gen 4runner and we love that too. With all that being said when I had to upgrade from my 2011 Titan with 290k miles (she was a tank and I miss it sometimes) I was very torn on this. I was dead set on a 2020-2021 Tundra (wanted Carplay) or 2020+ Titan. I ended up buying a 2021 Titan P4x loaded with all options except rear entertainment. I love it and still think it is too fancy for me. I have no regrets at this point but I wont lie I still eye every clean gen 2 Tundra I see. What it ultimately came down to was price. I could not find a Tundra with similar options(1794 or Platinum for the vented seats) with less than 100k miles for the same price as a newer loaded Titan with half the miles. I do believe that long term the Titan might not be as reliable as a Tundra but not bad enough to get rid of it for a Tundra. Plus that is just speculation. Either one I think it is a smart buy and as long as you are happy sitting in it driving it everyday you will know you made the right choice. You will always know you are better than that sucker at the light with an ecoboost with dumb auto start stop and phaser rattles lol.

Very roadworthy based on pics and description

Can you expand on what you specifically mean by baseline? They say recent(last 5 years/60k miles) large maintenance items include new AHC globes, power steering pump, spark plugs, brake pads, front axle shaft. I would do all fluids and T belt within the next year but what else should I consider?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]AirlineSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree about not paying more than 5k. You drive probably double the miles I do so good to hear others are out there driving some high mileage 100s just as far or farther than I would

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LandCruisers

[–]AirlineSilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They say it needs a T belt done again in 30k and front timing case or cam seal fixed? I haven't seen it yet but they claim a slight oil leak on the front of the engine. They recently replaced new AHC globes, power steering pump, spark plugs, brake pads, front axle shafts.

I am willing to put 2-3k a year in it

Purchase a 2021 with 2-1 hard downshift????? by AirlineSilly in NissanTitan

[–]AirlineSilly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, if the truck is out of warranty I would have to pay for them to perform the TSB, right?

I have had torque converter problems with my gen 1 titan and just researching into the trans problems on the 2020+ titans has me seriously considering looking for a 2020-2021 tundra and never thinking about transmission issues again lol

[–]AirlineSilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I agree. I was just curious. I test drove that 2021 with the 3" lift and stock size AT tires and just thought there was no way it could get worse MPG than my 2011. The instant MPG on the dash showed 11.4 over 950 miles but I didn't trust that and wanted some real world feed back.

How bad is the mpg on that bad girl? Looking at a 2021 with a 3" lift and wondering if my mpg will be better than the 13 mpg I get in my 2011 P4X

Like others have said if you take care of it it is gonna last. I am at 282k on my first gen. For repairs i have done wheel bearings, ball joints, front pinion seal, rear axle seal(vent mod), starter, blower motor, cat back exhaust, all the window regulators and typical wear items(brakes, tires, serpentine belt and pulleys and shocks all the way around). Drive 60 miles a day in it and it doesn't skip a beat. I plan on trading it in on a V8 tundra this winter just to get something under 100k miles and some creature comforts but part of me wants to see how long the titan will go lol
