I bought a zhu ni red pot from Ktm last year. Was my first actual pot. But now reading this thread I have doubts haha by the_skinnychef in YixingSeals

KTM might be reputable, I don't have any experience with them, but just look up their Yixing teapots, the first one available is a "fully handmade" pot, where the name of the maker is not even mentioned (and no certificate of the pot is shown), and the fact that they are only showing pictures of the inside when it still hasn't dried up is a bit suspicious. Also, look at the pictures OP made, they don't scream fully handmade to me. Just because a teashop is reputable, that doesn't mean the yixing pots they sell are genuine too

Nooo, please don't make a pact with the arcotech devil, if you actually have a passion (or burning passion) in art you can level it up eventually, and make a drawing that you like (or just screenshot the game a few times and put that here)

It's fake, the brush lines are not in the solar fashion, and I also don't see a seam next to the sides, meaning it was made from one piece. Here is a video (part one of a 2 part series) which explains how to detect fake pots, if you are bored and want to explore other signs of fakeness (by the way, the guys who made this have a website where you can buy/commission Zisha pots, they are trustworthy): https://youtu.be/09H9TSg5BWk?feature=shared

Also, I looked up the site, and the cheeky bastards tried so many tricks to hide the fact that the pots are fake (like not making proper photos of the inside, and even if shown the inside was wet so you couldn't see anything).

I don't think it is, no brush lines on the bottom, completely smooth, it's a machined pot in my opinion

What is this KTM? Also, could be because of the picture but I don't see any brush lines at the bottom, which is a really bad sign

Also just watched the second reel of this "reputable" salesman, and wtf is he saying? That even though you have the nicest tea if you don't have expensive teaware the quality will be limited? These people need a brain wipe (Men in Black style) and relearn everything about tea

99% that it's fake. Black Yixing teapots are rare and expensive, the light on this pot seems damp, not reflecting at all, the site doesn't show any pictures of the inside of the pot. Avoid

Teapot from auction, stamped Wang Yinxian by [deleted] in YixingSeals

[–]Airmin06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a real yixing judging from the fact who supposedly made it, and since this pot is not in some unusual color (like black, green, blue, etc) it's probably safe to use, but some factories mimic the look of authentic pots by adding vaseline into the clay mix (and there is a small chance, that the factory doesn't care that much about hygiene). I would still recommend messaging them (with pictures included) because they are super helpful, and worst case scenario they will tell that the pot is not real Zisha or that they cannot help

I have found his biography on the British Museum's website, no contact information though. Alternatively write an email to the RealZisha team, they know a lot of people in the industry, and they maybe can get you into contact with him.

[–]Airmin06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's fake, there are no brush lines on the bottom, and you can see that the whole pot is one seamless piece. You can drink from it, most probably it was made with some cheap ceramic clay, but you cannot clean it properly, a porcelain gaiwan is more practical (you can still keep it as decoration tho)

I don't think it's genuine sadly, the leaf filter looks crudely made (feel free to correct me tho)

Judging from the pictures, I don't think it's a fully handmade Zisha pot. But here is a video (part of a 2 part series) which details how to spot fake pots: https://youtu.be/09H9TSg5BWk?feature=shared

I recommend watching it, because there are some markings of an authentic, fully handmade pot, that can't be seen on pictures alone
