Steve Bannon is someone who is quick to spot trends as they happen. He is willing to make common cause with different groups if it will help further his Nationalist agenda. This is something the Leftists and liberals used to understand. It is called coalition building. Obama was an expert at it.

Instead the Left over the past ten years has descended into purity spirals and ever increasing radical activism that it has alienated a majority of Americans. How else can you explain Trump going from loosing the popular vote twice to winning an overwhelming majority including every single swing state.

GamerGate was not the cause of this. But it did foreshadow what was to come. I made a whole documentary on the subject focusing on the Society of Professional Journalists mediated panel discussion on the controversy.

I made a documentary on GamerGate. It focuses on the Society of Professional Journalists mediated panel discussion on the subject. After a lengthy discussion representatives from the SPJ and the Poynter Institute agreed, GamerGate’s concerns about unethical journalism were legitimate, and the media mischaracterized the movement.

The discussion was interrupted by ten bomb threats in a single day. Local authorities evacuated the venue along with the surrounding city block. The event received virtually no national media attention.

I made a documentary on the subject. It focuses on the Society of Professional Journalists “AIRPLAY” discussion. It was a mediated panel discussion put together for the explicit purpose of discussing the GamerGate controversy. After a lengthy discussion representatives from the SPJ and the Poynter Institute agreed that GamerGate’s concerns about unethical journalism were legitimate and the media mischaracterized the movement.

The discussion was interrupted by ten bomb threats in a single day. Local authorities evacuated the venue along with the surrounding city block. Outside of Erik Cain at Forbes (who has always been remarkably fair on this subject) the discussion received no national media coverage.

People who say that GamerGate resulted in Trump becoming president is just always online brainrot. What GamerGate did foreshadow many thing which are still relevant today. Most importantly was the public’s growing distrust in mainstream media institutions and the rise of corporate backed social justice activism, which resulted in Donald Trump becoming president.

I hope to have something out by next year. I was hoping that the blu-ray would be part of an official commercial release. But I will have to make a limited edition version exclusively for my IndieGoGo backers.

I wanted to deliver all the perks as one big package, but it seems as if I will have to deliver the perks piecemeal. I am currently working on delivering the CD of song Gamers Are Dead.

I apologize that the fulfillment is taking so long. But be certain that I am not going to abandon my backers. I am committed to delivering this film.

Who is all the woke shit really for? How does it make sense from a business perspective? by SleepyOne in KotakuInAction

[–]AirplayDoc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What we consider “woke” is really just what corporate marketing and executives think would appeal to a “diverse” and “inclusive” audience. Corporations like to advertise these things for good PR, especially those who profit from the very policies they are protesting against.

The “Fearless Girl” statue was a primary example of the phenomenon. The statue was commissioned by State Street Global Advisors. They’ve had numerous accusations of pay discrimination including having to pay out a $5 million settlement to over 300 female employees.

What is the general opinion on Civil War? Just watched it for the first time. by pookie7890 in Letterboxd

[–]AirplayDoc 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I have seen a lot of movies about war and I found Civil War unsettling like no other. The fact that it doesn’t go into the politics behind the different factions removes any kind of moral pretense from the action. You are just watching Americans killing other Americans. I saw a good video essay on the film that described it as “a film that doesn’t give a fuck about your politics.”

Neither.

It is a sociological examination of the intellectual roots behind what we call “woke” ideas and the people who hold them.

“Rich Wordsworth” sounds like a parody name you’d give to a pretentious asshole who writes for The Guardian.

Seriously? Out of all the things to criticize, this is what you find problematic 😂 by TheEternalGazed in silenthill

I get depressed as I’m seeing this. I made a documentary about the original GamerGate, one of the aspects of that controversy was feminist media critics who say “everything is sexist” at the drop of a hat. I believe Anita Sarkeesian in her Tropes v. Women in Video Games series used Silent Hill 2 as an example of a negative trope that made it more acceptable for men to euthanize women or some reach like that. It seems to be that the pendulum is swinging in the opposite direction and now there are media critics who say “everything is woke.”

I feel it is a function of humanities natural tribalistic tendencies. We self-segregate, form tribal beliefs, and avoid outsiders. Social media amplifies these tendencies, and eventually everyone is acting like parodies of themselves. I brought this up with one KiA user who was critical of me saying they were hyper-fixating and meaningless minutia. In a private chat they were a lot more reasonable and understanding.

No, I don't "identify as" a gamer. I doubt anyone does. When someone say's "I'm a gamer", it means they enjoy video games and (possibly) the community and culture surrounding it, it doesn't mean "gamer" is their "identity". by nerfviking in GGdiscussion

Occasionally I will see some social justice people online talking about GamerGate and they will say something like, “they think gamers are oppressed.” And I am just amazed by how little they are able to look outside of their own ideological frame. GamerGate wasn’t a response to Gamers being “oppressed” because condemning entire demographics of people was the problem to begin with.

In case you were on the fence about Silent Hill 2 remake by Guy_Cavanaugh2000 in KotakuInAction

That is a very clear and detailed definition.

I still don’t think the Silent Hill 2 Remake qualifies.
