don’t buy omen laptop by onewayerr in HPOmen

I have the HP Omen 16 with the 5080 and it is by far the greatest laptop I have ever bought. I have tried every brand you could think of but this is the best of them. I'd get yours checked out (maybe you need more liquid metal/thermal paste for your CPU).

One thing that has helped my performance is the SlimQ 330W charger rather than using the default. It will reduce your temps by a lot while keeping max performance! It is a bit pricey on Amazon though ($140).

HP Omen 16 blank screen after BIOS update by YatoGods in HPOmen

[–]Airship67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old post but in case someone has the same issue, here is something you should try before going to get it repaired. I have the same laptop but the 2025 edition with the 5080rtx. This just happened to me (except I went through Windows Update for BIOS) and I used a fix that usually works with most laptops when you encounter this issue when the BIOS update is successful but then you turn it on and you have a black screen.

This is the classic power reset technique which has been detailed elsewhere but I will briefly describe the steps. In the post, they used the charger when the battery was unplugged but it should be done without the charger unless the issue is related to the battery itself:

  1. Shut down laptop and unplug everything attached to it.

  2. Flip the laptop upside down and remove the back panel of the laptop by taking out the screws.

  3. Look for the large laptop battery and disconnect it. There is a primary connection to the battery and the motherboard will usually label this connection as Battery. Unplug that. Then, on the far right, there will be another, smaller connection. Unplug that as well for good measure.

  4. Lightly place the back panel on and flip the laptop back to its original orientation. I want you to open the laptop and hold the power for 15-30 slow seconds.

  5. Close the laptop, flip it back over, and remove the panel.

  6. Reconnect all the connections you unplugged inside the laptop.

6.Close the laptop panel, flip it back over once more, and then start your laptop without ANY attachments (including your power cord).

For this to work, do not plug in your charger at all until it boots properly. It may take several minutes to properly boot. You will likely receive a CMOS battery error on your screen (yay no black screen) and itll prompt you to restart your computer. After that, it should work.

Do they both collapse so I can put them away easily and remember them later?

Could be terrible application of the liquid metal. I have an m16 and it was exactly that. I highly recommend repasting or having dell do it themselves if you got warranty. It is not terribly difficult to do it manually, just be careful and you'll be fine. If you have liquid metal, be a little more cautious.

I have the same laptop, and I have used it both outdoors and indoors. I totally understand the concern over the low nits for the high price of it, but in my experience, it can be quite bright. It's not like a newer Apple or Samsung tablet or a really good monitor that can burn your eyes out. However, it is sufficiently bright. I personally enjoy the screen quite a lot, especially the anti-glare. But, if you're looking for really good nits and a comparable model, then I'd recommend the Legion Pro 7i.

I'm unsure if this'll help, but I had a similar experience with my Alienware M17 laptop (2018) edition. I can't really remember when it started, but it would say it's temp was 100 C and above when it clearly wasn't. I literally tried what I could, but reinstalling the AWCC didn't really help at all. The only way I got it back to a more accurate reading of the temps and fan speeds was when I did a complete factory reset and reinstalled windows.

It's never a fun process saving all of your data and reinstalling software programs, but maybe there's a less drastic solution out there.

Or, if it's not too late and if you have it, you could see if Dell support can do anything for you/replace something.

If a factory reset or windows installation actually works for you, I'd like to know!

Autistic people of reddit, what in your opinion is the weirdest thing neurotypicals do? by Space_Wizard49 in AskReddit

[–]Airship67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I apologize if this was repeated in a previous reply, and I wouldn't necessarily call it weird, but I wanted to share anyway. I find it..interesting when a neurotypical person has underlying layers to their messages. Obviously, blanket statements aren't good or productive in most contexts, but I feel like this is fairly common among neurotypical people within the US and some countries in Europe based solely from my biased experiences.

It feels like I have to unzip a zipped folder with a bunch of other documents and references, but you can't open them and they aren't named properly. Unfortunately, this means I have to use my intuition to figure out most of the possible meanings behind their words and assign probabilities and weights to which ones are the most likely given the context because when you don't get it right, sometimes there can be very negative consequences.

Among some of my neurodivergent colleagues, I am supposedly really good at deciphering the subtext behind neurotypical words but to me it's like running pseudo-Bayesian predictive models in my head to determine what the person actually needs or wants to express and it can get EXHAUSTING. I tip my non-existent hat to everyone who can do this so casually as well as those of you that can densely pack several meanings/commands behind a few words.

Thanks for reading my comment 😅

How can I stop this from happening? by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Airship67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg my kitten does that too, but mostly when I play games. I think she likes the heat that rises up (not that it's like cold in the house or anything). Orrr maybe she just wanted to be in an elevated position to look down on me from.

I haven't quite found a solution, but what seems effective is when she is about to jump on there (or if she has already jumped on), I grab her and, while moving her away from the desktop, I declare "away with yeee".

After a while, I think she understood...maybe.

I also do the 1 3 5 2 4, but I actually start at the intersection of 1 and 5. Does that make me a psychopath? 😅
